You might wnt to consider deleting your comment. Not funny at all.
I don't know if Mason was ever a first responder, but in those fields you develop a really dark sense of humor to cope with the shit you see day in and day out.
Bingo!

Apparently he has explosives in his apartment and has it booby trapped.

The bomb squad is there and they have evacuated the 5 surrounding buildings.

Sounds like the guy is a real whack job.

I have to wonder what his self-perception is. How important he is in some way or other but nobody understands? And how he'll just have to show everyone?

It'll be Obama's fault, along with his Socialist, terrorist, Kenyan, Muslim, Liberal friends. I'm not kidding, you WILL hear that.

It's probably already been spun into some sort of liberal plot to get a gun ban in place.

He was wearing all black, so no motif.

If you meant motive, then nothing has been released yet.

Still not funny, and very insensitive.
There are 'jokes' that are ok when told one-on-one and under certain context, and 'jokes' that are not.
This is one of those times when the impulse for making that so-called 'joke' publicly should have been held back.

There is controversy right now about a comedian and his 'rape joke'. Just as unfunny, and just because some people defend it doesn't make it automatically right or funny.

NRA Sends Out Unfortunate Message After Aurora Shooting

A Twitter account belonging to a journal associated with the National Rifle Association sent out an unfortunate tweet on Friday morning, just hours after a tragic shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado.

At 9:20 a.m. EDT, the @NRA_Rifleman account, which describes itself as "an official journal of the National Rifle Association," tweeted:

"Good morning, shooters. Happy Friday! Weekend plans?"

The tweet was up for more than two hours, before it was deleted around noon.

My heart sank when I heard about this. My thoughts go out to the victims and their families. There have been a lot of incidents like this lately and I often wonder if I’m part of the problem. I have an AR, an AK and a G3 clone. I’m part of the customer base that makes up the market When an antigun proponent asks me “Why do I “need” an “assault weapon”, I don’t really have an answer. Because they're fun to shoot? Because I’m a collector? Because maybe one day I might have to defend my family and property in a disaster or riot (very slight chance but not a 0% chance)?

These rifles are kind of like porn. Porn’s protected by the 1st amendment, but do we really need porn? With both items it’s more because we just can.

Anyway I’m not giving up my guns, but I’m a loggerheads at how we as a society can stop this.
Our mental health system sucks. It’s way under funded and resourced. We have no good means of preventing people who shouldn’t have a weapon from getting one. Last but not least the illegal drug trade makes for a very lucrative gun trade.

My ultimate argument to an anti is that the US sucks at banning anything. Booze, Drugs, whatever, if people want something they’re going to have it. That said bans are coming (and yes I’m still voting for Obama). I will be surprised if they will let gun owners have single-shot muskets after this is over.

Regardless what happened last night was awful, and as a gun owner even though I’m not responsible, I feel ashamed.

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Friday that the shootings that took place in an Aurora, Colo. movie theater hours earlier were a result of "ongoing attacks on Judeo-Christian beliefs" and questioned why nobody else in the theater had a gun to take down the shooter.

During a radio interview on The Heritage Foundation's "Istook Live!" show, Gohmert was asked why he believes such senseless acts of violence take place. Gohmert responded by talking about the weakening of Christian values in the country.
Furkin idiot.

“Why do I “need” an “assault weapon”
Because history tells us no government is immune from becoming corrupt and tyrannical. The 2nd ammendment isn't for sporting purposes, it's the last line of defense against tyranny. Even without using it, the mere possibility itself is enough to, at times keep government in check. It's why they won't shove things like the Enemy Expatriation act down our throats. It's why the abandoned SOPA/PIPA. You can make arguments all day long about how more people are saved by guns than die by legally possessed weapons but at the end of the day, that's not the point.

I don't disagree with your argument, it's just at times like these it's hard to fight the good fight. It would really be hard atm to tell a grieving parent "Well your child died so that we can keep our country free of government oppression".

Look, I'm not really trying to argue for or against anything. This seems to have hit me hard and I'm just venting.

This is the impossible argument.

Batman premiere shooting (part 2)

Posted: Fri Jul 20, 2012 2:54 pm
by Awake
(The previous thread was getting long)

"...71 people had been shot in total and 12 had been killed during the shootings..."

71 people... that is hard for me to comprehend... since some people were shot multiple times, and lots of shots missed, just how many shots would it take to actually hit 71 people? In the dark, with gas in the air. And lots of movement.

The police claim they were on-site within less than 2 minutes from the first 911 call.

Difficult to see how a lone gunman could do so much damage, not that I am suggesting anything. Granted, it was a sold out show with 300 people in the theater, but still...

I doubt all the injuries where due to gun shot wounds. Smoke inhalation along with sprains, scrapes and bruises from the rush to run out of the building probably account for most of the injuries.

Part of the problem is that most people don't really understand that the fully-auto guns they see the military using on the evening news and the look-alikes that are sold commercially are significantly different. Also, I suspect that they wouldn't recognize a Benelli R1 (for example) as being the same type of weapon at all.
