Ninja-dog crapper deterrent?

1
Anyone know of a way to prevent a dog crapping on my path out to the garbage cans? By the size of the turds, there are at least two different dogs shitting where I walk to take my garbage to the bins out in the alley behind my place. It's right behind a motel, so I doubt it's just the same two dogs and two owners all the time. Besides, I've never seen an actual dog/person out there doing the deed, so I can't chase them away. The little patch of grass and weeds is the only one along that block of alley way, which must be the reason they like doing their business there so much.

I don't want to hurt the dogs (it's not their fault), but I'd definitely like to set a booby trap for the owners. Which, alas, is probably unfeasible. (Unless...oh nevermind...that might get me trouble. Unless...)

So, I'm thinking some sort of scent deterrent. I'm wondering if I, myself, pee all around that patch of grass, would that keep the dogs away? I doubt it, but I'm drinking some beer right now and working up some liquid defense. Probably not the way to go about it, since I'll be pissing mostly water.

Home made hot pepper tea, maybe, sprinkled on the grass? I don't care about the grass/weeds. It's a wasteland back there. I just don't want to step in dog shit when I take the trash out in the dark.

Try cayenne powder with oil, and dribble that on the ground around the area you want to protect. The oil not only helps prevent the rain from washing it away (and the wind from blowing it away), but it also helps bring out the capsaicin, the active chemical in hot peppers, which is soluble in oil but not in water .

I think I'll try that.

However, I'm also open to some Rube Goldberg-type contraption, whereby the dog or owner trips a wire and the owner gets a good "dump" of some kind of nastiness on their head from 5 gallon buckets. The area is right next to a garage, so I've got the issue of where to place the buckets taken care of. Sort of. Maybe I'll dream up the rest of it tonight. I'd definitely need some sort of trail camera to capture the hilariousness that would ensue... "Dream" is probably the operative word.

The claymore seems a little too aggressive. (Can you buy those loaded with paintballs or skunk scent?) The capsaicin solution seems a little too passive, but might have to do.

apparently, dogs are scared of bears.
I'm with dogs on this one.
I eat meat and I hunt. Does that make my own pee predatory enough to scare dogs?

Edit: First dose of my own scent laid down. A little unnerving in daylight, since I'm in view of a coffee shop parking lot, but I turned my back and acted like I was scratching my head, deep in thought, instead of taking a leak. I'm glad I don't have to drop trou and squat.

Every dog I've had couldn't read.

Owners that don't pick up their dogs' shit don't seem to be able to read, either.
Well, it sounds like an area that might be mistaken as industrial or abandoned.
Nah... Anyone with a brain would see that there are residential garbage bins there, and that the weeds were freshly mowed. It's an obviously "used" area.

On second thought, though, maybe it would work. Hmm...I might just try your idea. A polite sign asking that they pick up after their dog might work. I'll give that a try. I haven't given up on humanity yet.

I'm a bit passive-aggressive. I tend to look past obvious solutions and go straight for hostility if I don't have to be around to see it in person.

That actually got me laughing out loud...thanks :)

Cobble the motion detector together with a in-ground sprinkler valve. Maybe a video camera, too. If it's people walking their mutts, you might get some amusing footage.
