Good luck and safe travels.

With so many musical LGC members coming to Portland, shall we set up a stage for the band? What will you call yourselves? :) Will rolandson be in big hair and spandex?

So, will you and Mr. Davis be attending? :D

Good point. Well, if you start driving now you only have to drive a couple of hours a day. Would be a great way to see the country and not too stressful. :)

(obviously, I am kidding. But seriously, its too bad we won't be seeing you at the meeting this year.)

Any other Folkies coming? (I like sea shanties - you don't have to be good, just loud.)

That's cool, man. His name appears on a good of my records. It's really cool to be able to hang with the cats who were there. Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers did a week long workshop at my HS when I was 16. I was the only bassist, so I got one on one time with their bassist. I learned a lot and got to play real music with Art Freakin' Blakey. I mean him on drums and little ol' me on bass. Changed my life and made me want to play jazz. The whole thing wrapped up with a Friday night concert which we, the school jazz ensemble, got to open up. One of the greatest experiences of my life.

Good luck with the gig G&G.

If you've ever listened to Charlie Mingus at the Jazz Workshop, I booked him for that and made the awful mistake of getting Janie Getz to play piano for him when the only person he showed up with was Danny Richmond. He was despicable to her, but to be fair, he treated all his sidemen very badly. Danny was stoned 99% of the time so he never noticed. Eric Dolphy never complete got over the experience of playing with him. Art Blakey was a very nice guy and a great drummer. Another good friend of mine, Ira Sullivan got his start with him.

Having alcohol involved helps as well.

Maybe next year. ;)
