In 1997 man named Ed Barker started a newspaper in Apache Junction.
His paper wasn't corporate like the other one.

He added a sports section to feature the kids, printed in color and did all kinds of cool things.

He is also the Editor.

He's a voice of reason in this state.

Anyway please read his editorial and if you feel like it, drop him a line at ajnews@ajnews.com and tell him he's not alone.

An excerpt from his writing about Fast and Furious
Reasonable people, including strong advocates for gun rights,
might be able to agree that changes are needed, and might
even be willing to enact such changes— but for the power of
the NRA.

And that is what ought to make us furious.

I'm thinking that a 'I've been trained' card that makes all firearms related purchases tax exempt might be a good incentive to get folks to seek and maintain firearms training. Want to buy a gun? No 11% Federal tax if you have your Exeption ID Number from your training course. Annual hunter's safety courses could automatically renew the 'card' and non-hunters would have a three-year renewal. This doesn't mean that hunters' cards expire every year, just that they get renewed when they take the class for their hunting license. Natural Resource Tax is on the hunting license, no lost funds there.

Don't want the card? Fine. No tax-exempt status for being a responsable gun owner for you. EIN does not link to anything beyond your SSN, is available to anyone who is here legally (no Travel Visas, that would be too hard to manage but H1B's and Student Visas would be fine. Visa expires and the EIN can not be renewed. All non-resident alien laws for firearms ownership apply) and is 100% voluntary.

Without the EIN, it could be more difficult to show that you acted in self-defense as you might not have been properly trained in the use of your firearm. Since the training should include a refresher on public safety laws and current statutes involveing self-defense, this would help someone prove they acted in self-defense.

As far as teh exact curriculum, I'm unsure. This is largely an idea I've been kicking around for a while.
