I'm a Noob, but:

"The Porcupine"? :P

or, how about something ironic, like "Reasonable and Sensible Gun Nuts"?
Well, I haven't yet come of with anything profound.

But I kinda like Porcupine. Native to North America, well defended, not particularly aggressive, cantankerous.

That's us!

I (for what it's worth) like G&G's suggestion..

However, whatever it's called, Thanks for putting it out...

mark wrote:BUT.... thanks for the kind words. Glad you are getting it. Sending out the newsletter before was a much larger pain - the new system is much better. And there was no way for users to selectively remove themselves from the newsletter yet still remain members, etc. Where we are going with this will make all of our lives easier in the long run.

Look for more newsletters in the future. In fact, once I get the software tweaked I am likely going to ask someone to help - which will just entail finding some links in the forum to post and write a sentence or two about.
I'd love to help with a newsletter.

How 'bout something more in tune with the anti-phalangist past?

Barricada (Barricade, in Spanish).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barricada_(FSLN)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_las_Barricadas

Too subtle?

While I really like all of the implications of this, for a gun organization to describe its political views in direct terms of armed conflict is a little too much like the wingnuts for my taste.

I like that the military implication of porcupine is one among many and a secondary implication at most.

I like the idea of the porcupine.

Ultimately, it's got to be something fun. All of these gun clubs and groups try to come up with some name to seem like some kind of bad asses. It's stupid and pointless. When I hear Porcupine, it makes me chuckle and smile. It makes me laugh because in the face of every other idiot trying to appear like Rambo, we choose to take it as something lighthearted.

Gimme something better. My thought was that it was an organized group of people leading a charge... in this case against right wing crap. Clearly, that message didn't resonate.

Now, I have also learned that this thread will quickly devolve into splinter groups with wildly different ideas leaving no consensus and me back where I started - a semi-crappy title and nothing to do about it. Of course someone will also chime in about how they think newsletters are stupid and why don't I just put it all up on facebook, and they don't like the color blue, or my name.

Don't take this the wrong way, I love feedback and I truly love you guys and gals.... but........experience has told me where this is going :)

Pretty soon we'll start having commies and anarquists going at each other.

Oh, wait. I think we do that already. Quite regularly.

ha. I think G&G had it right. Something along the lines of "The LGC Newsletter" may be best.

I'm down with that.

We can then make the porcupine our LGC mascot.

Do we have to spell Peter like a commie? That probably won't go over well. And I would pay to see goose in a porcupine costume teaching school kids about gun safety. LOL

I like that a lot. I worry about how some might twist it - the right being a target, we are just as bad as when Palin made her gaff about targeting certain people. hmmmm
