Liberals must learn how to market their policies

... in the political realm, arguments don't work. Facts truly don't matter. Logic doesn't matter. Only emotion matters. Democrats continuously fail to market their policies in a simple emotional context. They win the minds, but lose the hearts."

The above remarks, in red, were not written by me but I agree with them 100%. The below link leads to an article written by William E. Forbath, Law professor at the University of Texas - Austin (a deep blue oasis in the red state of Texas) - and it addresses the task ahead for Democrats.

Liberals must learn how to market their policies

The problem is liberal ideas often require understanding of complex issues, which rarely lend themselves to 10 second sound bites. It is easy to explain why you should keep your wages that you earn (not be taxed), but it is much harder to explain the economic benefits to all citizens that result from reducing homelessness or providing basic healthcare to everyone.

Negative emotions are the most easily stirred, especially in the immature mind. This is too adolescent a society to count on appealing to people's positive emotions.

Lies and changing the language have been right wing tactics.

I felt Clinton was hated in the beginning because he could lie better than them.

Unless we can learn a new language of bullshit and are willing to say it with a straight face we're going to have a problem.

I think we need class warfare.

Senator Al Franken said that Liberals are funny and they tell the truth. Fat lot of good that's done.

The problem is people can't tell when they are being lied to. Not even Judges and Juries..

They can tell, they just don't want to because they like the lies.

"You're entitled to live better than the others."

"You deserve that [whatever they desire]."

"It's not your fault, it's the Liberals'."

"You'll go to heaven even if you act like a complete ass if you accept my line of bullshit (and give me money for my extravagant lifestyle)."

If liberal ideas are so deeply loathed by Americans, then why does Obama always start to run to the Left in an election year?
I think the idea that Americans are too stupid to know what's good for them is a deeply cynical move on the part of the DLC to continue to pursue their corporate loyalty while blaming others for their failure to live up to their campaign promises.
It's a cop- out.

I have to disagree with you, 100%. I am a local shop steward and union president who negotiates with our local government on a regular basis. I find that if I don't have facts, and facts to back up my facts, the emotional arguements just fall on deaf ears. My experience is you can't convince anyone to do anything without strong facts to back up your arguement. Yes, emotional arguements work to augment your facts, but they don't get you anywhere.

probably true for the most part but I think the comments refer more to winning the hearts and minds of those on the political fence and moderate conservatives like I was but sometimes I think the liberal position can be too complicated for the average joe schmoe to comprehend, perhaps the message just needs to be more simple, there are alot of moderate conservatives who think along the same lines as liberals, the main 3 seperations are religon, abortion and taxes and taxes is a biggie because alot of social solutions are taxpayer funded and blowhard radical conservatives always scream socialism when something doesn't go their way,the middle class has really been hit hard in the recession,me included, between my wife and I we might bring home 40 grand a year so every penny counts but we also refuse to move bcause roots mean more to us than money, our farm has been in wifeys family for 125 years and we plan to keep it for at least 1 more generation,,damn,I 'm rambling again, :hmmm:
Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves.

Depends on the population. If you're representing a bunch of engineers or accountants, facts and figures are their idea of a good time.

Then think about why OWS failed miserably.
Failed? They achieved most of their objectives and are now fighting foreclosures, quite effectively, across the nation.
But I guess if the shitheads @ FAUX NEWZ said it was a failure, then it must be.
