Some UN treaty that is supposed to take away our guns

lol, no. for us it's a UN resolution pretaining to importing and exporting. You might be able to make the case that it was a gun ban if NO guns were made in america and you thought maybe there would be NO imports allowed. Unfortunately it looks like it might have an impact on glock's exports and therefore georgia... sad day for me. but no, it's not a US gun ban signed by obama.
I'd rather the UN spend more energy on the mines, nuclear weapons, aircraft carriers, aircrafts, drones, explosive ordenance, torture, death penalty...
So don't be too quick to label me a UN-phobe. I think they have a purpose and ought to exist.
Just don't mess with the individual right to self-defense, meaning don't mess with our rights to obtain small arms, and we're alright.

As the League of Nations grew into the UN, I am anxiously awaiting the UN to evolve again. My mom's 2nd cousin was a very good Secretary General, Trygve Lie. It has fallen far since they elected Waldhiem the first time.
Anyway, without a 67% vote from the Senate, no treaty of any kind can be ratified. Obama would not survive an impeachment if he signed this without support from the Senate first.

IANSA/Brady/Rebecca Peters/OXFAM, they are all pushing for this. Not much good can come to gun owners from the likes of these.
ErikO, sure hope stuff like this doesn't make it to the states.

We do have a history of NOT signing UN Treaties as of late.
Considering that aside from Belgium, we make most of the M4's for the rest of the world, I don't see NSSF rolling over on this one. The NRA may be a 400 lb gorrilla, but the actually admitted Gun Manufacturing Lobby is much much more powerful. I honestly do not see the Senate ratifying this one.
I really got to get that .224 swaging die set, just in case. As long as .22lr doesn't get outlawed I'd be GTG.

Not the IANSA versions that are out there, the complete video. You may even find it at your local funky rental video store.
Rebecca Peters makes that moron Wayne LaPierre look reasonable. I kid you not. But you'll be your own judge.

My argument: "Guns alone don't kill people, but power-mad regimes against a defenseless populace sure do."
As even our "socialist" president pursues outrageous acts of surveillance and human rights abuses ( http://www.propublica.org/special/obama ... y-timeline
), coupled with the upholding of the Citizens United corporate fascism, I don't have a lot of unbridled faith in the system at the moment, nor in the under-educated fanatical lackeys charged with upholding their proclaimations...
I CAN HAZ FIREARMZ?

Yeah, I see less chance of the Senate voting for the SAT after hearing the comments on that video. Even if it was edited, the Aussie did make the point time and time again that there is no civilian need for semi-auto or pump action firearms that can shoot over 100m.
LaPeirre is good at getting his point across and I don't disagree with the points he made in '07.
This is a prime example of why I try very hard to come across as a sane gun owner when talking with my federal employees.

That is one condescending, ill-informed nut case.
In some ways, the UK is much more progressive than the US. In a lot of ways, they are down-right fascist. Citizens lack basic First and Second Amendment protections that Americans have. In addition to draconian gun laws, they regularly censor political speech...and worse.
With the backing of 70% of their membership, the UN can't do shit in Syria. Any idea that the UN is going to go down to Alabama and take away guns in ludicrous.
All this "one world government" propaganda is bullshit. Look at the Euro -- that was supposed to over-take the dollar and the pound as the international currency of choice. How's that working out?
When Canadian chemical manufacturers claimed California's MTBE ban was an international trade violation, liberal environmentalists went nuts. American's of all political stripes are pretty protective of their national sovereignty.
I will conclude my rebuttal with this:

Ad Astra, I promise to not lump you in with other Aussies on this subject ever again. They're a bunch of nutters. At no point in our arguements on this subject did I want to just slap you.
Everyone who has seen that video knows now what the NRA thinks of when they use the word Liberal in a negative way. In short, whenever they use the term, really.
I can get why other Commonwealth countries find the USA so disturbing. We did not petition to remain Subjects while getting some measure of release from the Crown. We committed treason and taught the Finest Profession Army in Europe how to fight in a more 'modern' method. Sure, they burned our capital when we told them we'd not allow them to take our citizens as if we were members of the Commonweath, but we came back pretty strong.
At teh base of everything, we are a country not unlike a Romani clan: me against my brother, siblings against our Uncle, Family against outsiders. All that the SAT can do is make us band together as a Family.
