MOUNTAIN VIEW, Colo. (CBS4)- A local couple who claim to be Satanists believe they’re a victim of a hate crime and were targeted because of their religious beliefs.
Someone cut down a political poster stating, “VOTE SATAN” from their front porch where they live in Mountain View, a suburb of Denver.
“We are Satanists… Satanists,” said Luigi Bellaviste.
Luigi and Angie Bellaviste belong to the Church of Satan. They even have a Satanic Bible in their home.
“I feel like we’re being treated unfairly because it’s not a so-called mainstream religion,” said Luigi.
“I know of many people who have the Virgin Mary and tons of Jesus memorabilia ‘I Love Jesus’ and what is the difference?” said Angie.
Despite their opinion on the couple’s choice of lawn ornaments, most of the Bellaviste’s neighbors are on their side.
“It’s still their property. It’s still their house. They have a right to say whatever they have to say,” said one neighbor.
“Everyone has their own religion… to each his own, I guess,” said another neighbor.
The couple wants the police to consider the incident a hate crime because their religion is protected by the U.S. Constitution.
Edit - changed title

They are clearly fed up with voting for the lesser evil.

Interesting. "The even have a Satanic Bible in their home." And what would you expect them to have? I'd like to see that book. Do they mean they have a copy of Screwball LaVey's book? The one that should have been labelled, "Rituals Designed to Piss Off and Freak Out Christians?" I've got a copy of that somewhere, in paperback. (I'm not just sacrilegious, I'm also cheap!

)
As far as I'm concerned, if the christians are right, only satanists have the slightest chance of getting into heaven. It's taught throughout christianity that you can not bribe god, i.e. if your purpose for doing good is to gain admittance to heaven, you're wasting your time. I don't know ANY christians who are not christians for that very reason. So, your only hope of getting into heaven is to renounce christianity; that way any good deeds, etc., that you do will actually count! It's the jesus catch-22.
A god is a lie.

No, the cake is a lie. God is still a question.

For the sweet love of Satan, can we not turn this in to another thread of cranky atheists spouting about the stupidity of religion?
It isn't very considerate to the religious among us. I know that it can be exciting to have a place where we can say things like "It's a lie" without being excoriated, but I don't think it is kind to those here who are religious. We don't stand for intolerant spouting of religious fervor on this site and we shouldn't give the equivalent a pass from atheists. No, that isn't a false equivalence. We don't tolerate it on race, or sexuality, or gender. We should not tolerate it on religion.
I'm not asking anyone to back away from issues like Christian supremacist politics, or the drive towards theocracy, or the separation of church and state. I'm just asking folks to back away from statements like "religious people are stupid", even when the world is full of religious people who make that a very easy thing to say. It ain't right to treat our friends here that way.

It's all human arrogance. "My belief is superior to your belief." We all do it, some are just snottier about it than others.

as long as you don't try to teach any of those beliefs in school, it's fine, but schools should be for the teaching of logically backed and scientifically tested ideas. Leave religious beliefs for the churches.

I don't want paganism taught in science class any more than Christianity. What people do on their respective holy days or lack thereof is their own business.

1) Is the message "Elect Satan" intended to be a reminder to vote for some candidate running for "the office of Satan?" If so, I would have to say I'm of a mind to throw the incumbent out -- he's kind of an a$$hole.
2) If we are to elect Satan to some other office, would he have to give-up his day job? If we could elect him to something where he couldn't do much harm, like as a member of Congress or Governor of Texas, I think that is a pretty good trade-off.
Just sayin'

Perhaps not, but it's being done, at an alarming rate. All in the name of religious freedom.

Yeah, but who would fill his day job? The displaced governor of Texas? I have to stick with Satan in the position of Lord of the Flies and his various ancillary titles if the alternatives are the likes of Rick Perry; competence is a valuable trait for the ruler of Hell.

Bush could fill in but to be honest I'd rather have the current ruler of hell rather than him. With that kind of power imagine what he could do.
