You obviously are confining yourself to a very few conservative fora. Very few. Count them on 2 fingers few.

They couch their hatred and wish for liberal death in euphemisms like "Liberalism is a mental disorder."

I'm just willing to say it, right out, undiluted. I don't care. I hate them all. I'm fed up with right wing assholes (and that's actually a redundant phrase).

I got told on Facebook just the other day that I was a target. I responded he gets one shot so make it good.

I can handle any political stance short of Totalitarian or Fascist. Don't threaten my family or me and all is good. Act like an asshole and you get my bite.

You should have seen the multi-page reaction in another forum in response to my post why on earth Nighthawk Custom would mix religion and business by including a religious slogan on its homepage. I first heard about LGC when an LGC member of that forum PM'd me about shrill, ignorant responses and told me about a forum--this one--where minds rather than slogans prevailed. From time to time, though, I've changed my signature line in that other place to things like, "Can the 2nd Amendment survive support of the far right?"

Re spirit4earth's comment way back there: "Obama is constantly bashed and blamed for problems in this country that began way before he surfaced."- do you know why the right wingers hate Obama so much? I believe it's because he proved the general electorate's overwhelming sentiment that Dubya was such an exceedingly bad President that a black man (this is their real prejudice) actually got elected, something they didn't think possible in America. The angst at the election of Obama is compounded by how they find most of the nation now thinks about their guy Bush.

Then you're either not paying attention or you're lying. One of the main things that kicked me over from Right to Left was seeing what my fellow conservatives had to say while under the relative anonymity of the internet. Essentially it all boils down to, "This country would be much better off if we could just kill all of you, just kidding ha ha.". They talk endlessly about honor, about bravery, about personal responsibility, but when they believe they've got a like-minded audience or what they say can't be traced directly back to their real lives then the mask slips.

this is the one that gets me, they talk about losing their freedom, but are all too willing to take away your freedom

Because in their minds, anyone not like them doesn't deserve freedom. This is why we have cops who engage in selective enforcement and extrajudicial punishment. This is why we have career military members who think they're owed deference and silence of any view that is not pro-military. They believe that because they supposedly defend freedom, they're the final arbiters of who gets to exercise that freedom and how.

When did the liberals give up the second amendment?

When the Brady Campaign convinced Clinton to pass the Assault Weapons Ban, when Democratic controlled areas (Such as Chicago) pass Draconian gun laws.

The "Liberals" that advocate for these things are ruining the reputation for the rest of the Democrats. Kennedy was a life member of the NRA, I wonder how many Democrats could get elected now with that in their resume?

Not all liberals gave up the second amendment and not all antis are liberals (see original Bush and St. Ronnie).

Stupak was an RKBA supporter and was elected Rep for 18 years. He was also very progressive otherwise (with the exception of the forced birther philosophy).

I would tend to agree with the Clinton/Brady Bill association, even though the Brady Bill (if I remember correctly) had conservative support as a knee jerk reaction.

I wonder what the murder count in Chicago is this month? It seems to me social iberals are responsible for the Chicago gun laws, not social conservatives.

Yeah, social conservatives supported the Brady Bill (Ronnie anyone?) and the import ban was signed under Bush the elder. Yet, let's take a look at that bastion of liberalism, Vermont, and its firearm laws.

I would like to point out that conservatives (and their policies) have caused more damage than shitty 'liberal' firearm laws.

The leadership coup in the NRA in 1974 (I think) by the reactionary wing, nearly simultaneous with advances made by Gun Control Inc with a few key urban liberals. That's when it really started.

It was conservative Republicans who started the restrictions on guns in California, efforts aimed at the Black Panthers.

Having actually lived there, I would NEVER call 'Da Mare' a social liberal and see no need to put anything resembling that on King Rahm. If Cook County could shut down the 1st amendment they would do so as fast as they had the 2nd. There is nothing liberal about that brand of politics. It is purely about power consumption and maintenance by as small a group as possible. The reduction of the 2nd Amendment in Cook County and inside Chicago proper has far more to do with keeping power over the populous than either a liberal or conservative bent. When only elected officials and off-duty cops can carry handguns legally, who is really being kept safe?

GHW, Ronnie and Charlton Heston who had a big role in the '68 gun control act.

At the indoor range I go to, I really only talk with the gal behind the counter, and in all the years I've been going there, politics has never come up except very indirectly, as a part of something else, and didn't really hint at which direction either of us sat. At the outdoor range I go to, I find myself chatting with other shooters more often, since you have to retrieve your targets and that means a lot of waiting for everyone to get to a stopping point for the ranges to go cold. Still, it has managed to remain politics free and mostly technical. I overhear things said on the line, but I just ignore it and shoot.

When I first started going to a range, I was very concerned about the politics there, but pleasantly surprised to find it politics free. I see more signs of a political bent at the outdoor range, but I think that's more a function of it being in a rural area.

Another thing I noticed when I first started going to a range (specifically the indoor range) is that there were people who looked like the average Portlander of a liberal mind in there all the time. There were also people who looked like the archetypal redneck, W in'04 gun freak, but I was surprised to see the amount of scruffy hipster beards, blue hair and just regular looking people in with their girlfriends or wives for the first time. Kids who got it in their heads that it would be fun to go to a gun range, none of them ever having owned or even shot a gun. I have no idea where any of them are politically, really, and that's the way I like it.

This is because you are in Oregon. It definitely isn't the same here in sunny South Carolina. Unfortunately.
