Re: Wingnuts say epilepsy meds turned Roberts liberal

Actually, Thom Hartmann had an interesting take on this.

Epilepsy DID make Roberts a liberal on this issue. Why? He has what would be classified as a "pre-existing condition", the type of thing insurance companies would deny coverage for in a heartbeat.

Roberts may have been denied coverage sometime in the past. He knows what it's like. Of course, most right-wingers who practice market idolatry don't give a shit how many corpses are stacked to the sky in service to their ideology. As long as insurance companies can make money, they're happy.
The Detroit Red Wings. It's not just a game; it's a religion!

He voted liberal because the bill had to be upheld, as it requires people to buy insurance from for-profit insurance providers. I called it months back. Wasn't sure which of the court's conservatives was going to have to fall on their sword to push it over to 5-4, but I figured it would be Roberts, Alito, or Kennedy.

well in hindsight i'm surprised it wasn't Thomas just to show he wasn't corrupt, but also in hind sight, not really, no one's really all that upset he tried to vote himself millions of dollars.... which is sad. Told my dad about the situation and even HE, the conservative ACA hating ex-republican says that thomas should have not had a say in this.
If I hear "crony" capitalism one more time I'm going to be ill. Capitalism is capitalism, dog eats dog and one dog ends up on top, and he defends that place with all the power he's accumulated.

Since I still maintain a sliver of naïveté, I prefer to think it was for scholarly reasons.

I don't think his personal experience had much bearing. Not sure if that's good or bad.
I think he was the one best able to make the case for legal reasons and explain it in a solid manner.
