They put those things in towers near the ocean so ships can navigate by them. You can see those things from 50 miles away. Why anyone would want one mounted on a rifle I haven't a clue.

Don't be afraid of the dark. Embrace it!

For evaluating things that go bump in the night, I can see it as useful.

My concern about gun mounted lights is that is the first thing an adversary would shoot at.

The advice I've heard is to:

illuminate
deluminate
move
fire.

People are often hesitant to use force, especially if they think the threat of force is sufficient.

When there are unusual night noises on the farm that need investigating, I take my favorite flashlight. It just so happens it is attached to a shotgun. Of yeah, it is right next to a laser with a pressure switch on the fore end. A great combo for dealing with man or beast (so far, only beasts and the little f&$kers just run away).

In a SHTF situation, anyone threatening me and my family isn't just an attacker, they're a food source. Veggies are covered, we have a small garden which we can easily expand, but we're in a semi-rural area, not much in the way of meat.

Er, what about just a home invader? I don't know, it seems that you sorta took a weird turn at cannibalism.

Meh, if it's just a home invader, I've got steak or porkchops in the fridge. But really should cannibalism really that strange an idea? I mean if I'm dead I don't want my body rotting in the ground in a sealed vault, I want it going back to the earth and being useful, so at the very least compost my ass. Really I promise I won't care, you know, because I'll be dead. So I guess the short answer is I see humans as no different than any other creature, just smarter ones. If one has to be put down, respect it by not wasting it.

Neil degrass Tyson says it better.
