Unions aren't barred by law from making political endorsements. Unions have a democratic internal structure. Unions don't threaten eternal damnation for disagreeing. False equivalence.
Unions don't black ball members from their "congregation" for showing up with bumper stickers they don't agree with. They don't refuse services to members for voting gop, the catholic church threatened members who voted for Kerry in 2004 because of his stand on abortion. If the musicians community wasn't so full of scabs I wouldn't have to be assaulted by some drunk and his air head singing Sonny and Cher duets at the bar on karaoke night because there would be no karaoke nights.

well the thing about scientists and mathematicians is they are trained in critical higher order reasoning skills. Sociologists in particular would make excellent public servants. The thing about scientists, mathematicians and sociologists though, is we tend not to be as charismatic as the business and law guys, charisma being part of their job description.

then again we could just teach those skills in high school... I know crazy idea right, school as a place of learning.

Who said I hate liberals and Unions. I have been a Union Electrician for 35 years, that doesn't mean I want them to tell me how to vote. I have been a registered Democrat all my life and have voted that way until Obama, just don't like the man. So I guess you aren't as smart as you thought so go judge somebody else.

That's a new one to me. None of the Catholic churches I go to ever threatened anybody.

Conservatives/Republicans/Tea Party, whatever. They have the same attitude now as they had when they came to discover America. Kick out everybody but themselves, make false claims, use fear to control and justify law and use the resourses they want with no regard to consiquence or how it would effect surrounding life, habitat and community. The hypocrocy and greed they practice is unlimited I guess as seen the past. Thankfully this neandrethalism cannot and will not last forever. The Becks, Hannitys,Limbaugs, Bachmann's and Palins of the world will be gone in time. That or why don't they just leave this place of progression now if there so unhappy and discover another place where logic, diversity and compassion for all life won't bother them anymore. Like a nice secluded island or burning astroid.

Don't want to start an argument with you about it but I remember quite clearly that bishops in 2004 were threatning to with hold communion to anybody that voted for a candidate that voted pro choice. If your union ever threatened you for voting for voting for a candidate they did not endorse I would like to see the proof. They always print a list of candidates they endorse and my experience is that it is not always Dem, my union (UTU) has backed any candidate that is pro railway labor or the industry in general.

Things must be different where you are. Yes the Union never threatened me. They do flood my mail box with who they want me to vote for and it has never been a Republican. The Catholic church has never threatened to not give me communion because I didn't vote the way they wanted me to. They preach pro life and tell us to vote what our conscious tells us to. Not much of a threat.

uh, since when does not voting democrat mean voting for the republicans? I didn't vote for Obama last time, but I didn't vote for McCain either.

Re: I hate conservatives

Well, I read through the whole thread and want to sum up several good submissions.
One guy said physicians and mathematicians should control the world. Problem with that is it's already been put forward by an organizatrion called Technocracy in the 1960s. Didn't fly- there are conservative physicians and mathematicians too so they just got in fights.
.
Another person made the point that the old line conservatives have nothing in common with today's Tea Partiers and hard right wingers. Perfectly true. The old time conservatives are more akin to today's liberals in many respects.

Another said that the Becks, Hannitys, Limbaughs, Bachmanns and Palins of the world will be gone in time. As individuals that's true- but they'll be replaced. You have to realize that there are rich demented idiots like Richard Mellon Scaife (who married into big money) and the Koch brothers who will spend MILLIONS to defeat liberal government. They are so immoral that they can't even conceive of doing some genuine good with their wealth like saving lives, eradicating hunger and disease, etc. Well, what goes around comes around. They will be taken care of by karma and I'd hate to be in their shoes. And there's nothing they can do to escape their fates but change completely. As long as people like them exist, there will be new hard right commentators and politicians cheerfully funded. I live in the same state with that corrupt bagman John Boehner but we keep him way down in hillbillyland where they're dumb enough to vote for him. He'd get shot in Cleveland- couldn't win as dogcatcher.

What will happen? I fear civil war someday- and our old buddy Nixon fixed us up just swell with the volunteer Army. They'll shoot down their neighbors without a qualm. Our only hope is to restore the draft with alternative national service, women too. That finally stopped Vietnam in its tracks after Tricky Dick took six years after he said he'd end it and it was still going on under Ford before Saigon fell. But history repeats itself and someday the people will rise up and tumbrils (or paddy wagons) will roll in the streets again to the gallows and take care of the bankers and corporate heads and corrupt politicians- it's a historical inevitability. They'd best get smart first. Me? I want nothing to do with it- and I might not be alive by then anyway.

same here, although I have voted for Republicans on the local and state level based on their performance and some of them I know personanaly but I also think that Republicans and Democrats work beter together at the local level because they both have the same community in mind,at the state sometimes it's hit and miss but the most the federal level republicans can kiss my ass as well as alot of democrats, all they do is fight and argue and the people like us get fucked,

that's because as you get higher and higher you have to have more and more money, and therefore have to kiss more and more corporate ass. At the local level a few signs do the trick, which means you can tell the corporate shills to go piss off.

MO when from the Truman State to the NIMBY state.

Most of our elected officials don't know the difference between Resident Alien and Illegal Alien, largely due to the electorate not really understanding the difference.

Thankfully, the ones I've voted for do know the difference. :) They also happen to be Democrats, but that's because the Republicans from this state are dumb asses in general and Senator Blunt is a great example.
