A "friend" on facebook posted this. I don't know much about this news source, but I do know that they got the title wrong and it seems like hysterics. I'm not a fan of genetically modified organisms, but this seems to contribute to the idea that anti-gmo folks are a bunch of fanatical, reactionary tree-huggers. From what I've read, Tifton 85 grass is a hybrid, not a GM grass. The fact that this grass hybrid was introduced in 1983 negates any accusations that it is a GMO.

Here is one, among many, other source I looked at.

http://www.tifton.uga.edu/fat/tifton85.htm

It really irks me when people who don't have the proper background try to write about things they don't understand in an effort to promote their philosophy.

GM or not, sounds more crappy genetic choices for a hybrid. The almost staged internet "outrage" of this story is puzzling.

Maybe, but it's still false information. From what I've read, it's a pentaploid sterile hybrid. Long story short, that means it can't reproduce. Its pollen is not going to pollinate other individuals. That's a big difference from other GM crops.

 I just looked up the article again and it seems like they (the author) edited it due to public outcry because of the stupid misinformation. Thank you for listening!

GM corn has been linked to sterility in livestock, including cattle. GM seed is the bain...er...bane of mankind.

Oops...bain...Freudian slip on my part.

True, but hysterically spreading misinformation might not be the best way to further a worthwhile cause.

Agreed, there is no reason to use hyperbole when dealing with thigns from companies like Monsanto. It's simply not needed; the truth is bad enough.
