Man, 3 new ones yesterday - some within city limits (Estes Park, and Manitou Springs). 3 days in a row of triple digits and more in the forecast.
Plus, dry thunderstorms for today. High winds and lightning with no rain. Perfect.

I've seen these gigantic fires in northern New Mexico. They're impressive in an end-of-the-world sort of way.

Contrast that with the fact that it hasn't stopped raining in Tampa for 4 days, and it's projected to keep up for at least another 2 or 3...weather is a strange thing. When I lived in Tucson, Mt Lemon was burning for a while, and we could see it at night. It was very odd to me being from Florida with no hills, let alone mountains...

Climate change is a hoax. The science is not settled. Reasonable people can disagree on this issue. Nothing to see here. Move along.

We had a right wing poster on this forum who often used the term "Move Along" when he didn't like a discussion, I found it offensive and so did others.
A UCLA study out this week that got a lot of attention out here, this Spring was 5 degrees warmer and NWS is predicting an ugly summer. It's a study and like anything is subject to discussion and disagreements.

It's already an ugly summer. Thursday, 13 degrees above average, drowning humidity, I went through two gallons of water, pour some of it over myself and let it evaporate. No a/c in the work truck, just one of those little 5 inch fans. Already, 90 seems 'comfortable'.
I've done the math, and the wiring harness won't support a 900 watt portable air conditioner. If I cut some of the steel deck plate I might be able to go straight to the engine with some heavier gauge wire... I dunno.

Can't forget about the overall density of the forest, and the incredible damage done by the Pine beetles. If anyone out there is familiar with CO, Berthoud Pass takes you from I-70 north over the Continental Divide to a summit of over 10,000 ft, then down into Winter Park. The view from the summit is a sea of peaks and dead forest. There are miles and miles of dead pine. Sadly, the best thing for the forest is to burn, so new trees can come in. There is a small market for the beetle kill pine, but harvesting on those steep slopes isn't cost effective these days.

Stay hydrated, any chance of getting a new work truck with AC ? We had a power outage here last night which we rarely have, So Cal Edison said it was equipment failure. Thankfully it was cooler yesterday, 100 plus at the end of the June when we lose the coastal fog.

I'm starting to see more studies and articles predicting serious climate change impacts within a couple of decades, rather than a century or more.

This is important, because it places the impacts withing the expected lifespans of a lot of people, including some decision makers, and also within the planning horizons of local General Plans, etc. (most have a 30 year planning horizon).
That means a whole lot of players -- local and state planners and elected officials, landowners, developers, insurance companies, etc. -- will be forced to face up to the science, where they could previously ignore it.
Of course, if you many of the comments for the linked article, you will see that all this climate change hooey is just a socialistic plot.

Those are dramatic pictures eelj, I feel sorry for the residents. I worked on disasters and even with Federal and state declarations, private insurance money and government funds it doesn't always cover the loss and reconstruction. Please post some pics from your drive.
That NRC study and others are important for planning as you note Larry, the more studies we see a pattern. Seems like comments on newspaper articles brings out all the right wing types, same with newspapers down here of course this is a red area.

I'm pleased that they'll have to live with the ramifications of their actions just like the rest of us, instead of being able to duck out before things get too bad.
Course, these are people who think Jesus will be coming back before climate change becomes an issue. And that the climate change will be to the

Things just got real bad. In Colorado Springs, homes are burning and the Air Force Academy housing has been evacuated. they just said all homes west of I-25 need to be prepared to bug out. This is 25% of the city. 32,000 people have been evacuated.

Not good, I was up in the Denver and Colo Spgs area a couple weeks ago. Your mild winter is leading to a catastrophe, hopefully they can get a handle on it soon.

Climate change or not I think these devastating fires were inevitable due to our long history of fire suppression and the buildup of fuel in our forests.

One of my friends in CO Springs evacuated last night. I'm still waiting to hear from her. From maps that I've looked at, it seems the fire is about 1-2 miles from her house.
