Shot my first USPSA Classifier today. Holy shit...
Six targets with varying no shoots on them. Four strings for the course of fire. You have to draw from your holster and engage all six targets for each string. You only get 4.3 seconds a string with penalties for overage or reengaging a target.
First string is 60 feet out freestyle. 4.3 seconds passes by awfully fast.
Second string is 45 feet and strong hand only. 4.3 seconds seems much faster.
Third string is week hand only at 30 feet. WTF? It's taking me at least two seconds to draw and change hands!
Fourth string is freestyle at 15 feet. This is the most screwed up part of the stage because now you're close enough to see how many misses you have.

I was shooting a Glock 34 Gen 4 in Production. It was my second match, so I concentrated on going for no misses. I made it through all the stages with only two no shoots till the last stage where I fell apart on the last target and had a miss. All in all, it's a ton of improvement in a month. I think switching from a Gen 4 Glock 19 to the 34 made a huge difference. Also, I've probably shot another 400 rounds or so since then plus an IDPA match in between. I just have to work on it.

That sounds challenging.
I shoot in some "practical pistol" matches with a local club, but they are not as formal or demanding as the course of fire you describe.

They usually aren't as bad as this one, but it was a classifier. Even the sponsored shooters were having issues.

Alright. Here is an update. My first time shooting USPSA was abysmal. It was so bad I don't even want to talk about out. However, I didn't come in last as one of my buddies was DQ'd for sweeping the other shooters so... Good for me.
This second time around was significantly better. Scores were released today and I quadrupled my overall score. My raw times are nearly double what the leader had, but my percentage overall quadrupled. It's amazing what you can do if you just stop and aim. My reloads seem to be pretty good.
Where I'm suffering now is figuring out when and if I need follow up shots. I'm taking an extra second to get an A instead of a C or D, but it's probably proving to be at more of a detriment than one would think. I need to improve my aim and follow up shots a bit before I can start gaming the stages more. Overall, it was a good showing. My stack of 100 IPSC paper targets just arrived and I'm going to try and make it over to the range sometime in the next few days. Also, I have an option to either shoot action steel on Saturday, IDPA on Sunday, or both. Decisions decisions.
