How long have you been reading Single Shot Journal? I used to write for it.
Hey Joel, when did you write for it? I have a bunch of old copies around that I haven't looked at in years. Most are from before they added Single Shot to the title.
Are you sure you are not thinking of Collectors Journal? They used to change their name all the time. My friend Joe Salter recently bought the rights to it and as soon as he gets it going again I'll write for it. I'm not a fan of the Mobrays who publish Man at Arms and when Gun Report folded I was left without a magazine for which I want to write.

Saber? Dit Dah Dit.
Épée and foil. Saber is for young people who like to scream.
Foil as a teen. Saber looked like more fun.

When it gets going, please let me know. That sounds like one I'd enjoy reading. I'm not much into collecting, as such, but the collectors always know the cool info and I like learning that about my shooters.

"Gun Dog" and "Pointing Dog Journal" about once per year if I see them on a stand and I feel like impulse buying.
Too many ads in magazines otherwise.

Nope. My wife was a Unitarian and would be shooting with me now if she were still here.
Used to did read the Watchtower a long time ago when I was a JW. Nowadays, it's New Scientist, Scientific American, National Geographic and occasional forays into the Utne Reader and Alas, Mother Jones. I'd probably read a gun magazine if I could find one interesting enough. Still looking.

I am currently not subscribed to any magazines, but I was subscribed to several for a good long time. They were Fine Scale Modeler, Historical Miniatures Quarterly, Bass Player, Maximum PC. Max PC was a gift subscription from my step dad which ended when he passed Xmas before last. I had let all of the others go, one by one, well before that.
I get G&A through my iPhone by the issue. The pro-NRA, fear the UN and their super ninja armies they're training on a secret base on an iceberg in the North Atlantic bullshit gets on my nerves and ruins the fun of the other articles.
Anyone remember Shotgun News when it was a big, thick newsprint rag full of ads for cheap firearms stuff? I loved that one when I was a kid.

Yeah, I just buy the SGN Annual now so I don't have to deal with all the vitriol from their regular issues.

No. It was Double Gun Journal and then became Double Gun and Single Shot Journal.

I just took a Unitarian divinity student shooting for her first time recently. I know more armed Unitarians than un-armed Unitarians.
I believe this is our dirty little secret. At least one of them. I sense in our large congregation church there is some slight movement towards the Practical end of the spectrum and away from Extremely Ideal.
I prefer my idealism marinated in a broth of reality. That would just hit the spot.

I subscribe to Rolling Stone, the Hockey News, Jacobin and Handguns. I get all the others via Kindle.
All right- a hockey fan! Stalwart Red Wings supporter here, since we lost our team in 1978. Been to the old Olympia and now Joe Louis many times. But I was stationed in Detroit in the Coast Guard YEARS ago and feel an affinity for the town. Who do you root for?
I used to subscribe to THN years ago with two buddies. I was so into it then- the years of the Broad Street Bullies. I had a job out in Omaha during the 1975 Stanley Cup playoffs and had a sign in the back window of my car saying "ONLY GOD SAVES MORE THAN BERNIE PARTENT" and people were honking at me. Haven't kept up with the NHL since we moved to Jax in 1997 and didn't have cable, but after returning home with a two year stopover in Oregon (couldn't get a job out there0) got a good TV/cable/internet package last year and am enjoying seeing games again without having to go to a sports bar and buy dinner. So long till October though!
Hey, why do you read the American Conservative? Keeping up with the enemy? Smart move. I'm one of the few from the other side- my parents were Republicans (though not hard liners and this was back before most Republicans were hard right wingers) and like many I just grew up accepting their political and religious beliefs without thinking about it. I was for Nixon in 1960 (shook his hand, God help me, but I was only 14!), Goldwater in 1964 and voted military absentee for Tricky Dick in 1968. Then I got out of the service in 1969 and went to college, just in time for Kent State the next year. It was like it happened on our campus 40 miles away. That radicalized me completely. Only those who have hung out at the zoo know the animals.

Bill,
Welcome to the forum. My Dad was a partner in the same law firm as Nixon and Mitchell. He and one other of the partners were Democrats. When my wife and I were married, all the partners sent us nice presents. Nixon was so egotistical that he sent us a letter of congratulations thinking we would treasure it.

Oops- forgot to say what magazines i read. I used to read the Nation but it was too much opinion. Also Mother Jones but dropped it when that egotistical publisher what's his name- Adam Hochschild- fired Michael Moore just after hiring him. Also Popular Mechanics but dropped it when they sucked up to Bush and sounded too right wing and militaristic (but that's their audience unfortunately). Took Macleans for a while because an unbiased newsmagazine as far as the US is concerned is valuable- thinking of taking it again though it's pricey. Right now I take Newsweek, Popular Science (though I'm uninterested in half the articles), Consumer Reports and Motor Trend (though I'm uninterested in half the cars- who wants to read about pricey European or American luxury makes?) and that's about it. As for Newsweek, even in a liberal newsmag you can't get rid of the right wingers- they probably say it's for fairness and balance but does that bother Fox? After Newsweek finally got rid of Nancy's lapdog (George Will) it picks up that neolithic jerk Niall Ferguson. Shows you that just because someone's a professor doesn't mean they're rational.
Great thread, folks. Glad to be here.

Bill in Cleveland
Think I'll rechristen my sig line:
Bill the Clerk- your left wing alternative to Joe the Plumber
(been in manasgement several times- unsuited to it temperamentally- but I'm near retirement
though I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up)
