Hey all,
Just joined today. I'm psyched to find out I don't have to become an NRA zombie to continue to love the shooting sports. I am a democrat who loves to shoot. I shoot in USPSA competitions here in central and northern VA with my HK P30L. I also enjoy my Ruger Mark III .22 target pistol and my great-grandpa's Remington SpeedMaster rifle from the 1930's chambered in .22short. It's groovy--has a tube magazine that feeds through the stock and it's a very accurate little gun.
I live in Sumerduck, just east of Fredericksburg and I work in Stafford as a veterinarian. Been shooting on and off for 20 years.
I am so glad to find like-minded folks. My liberal/moderate friends think all gun enthusiasts are just right wing nut-jobs because the NRA has hijacked our sports and our politics. And my "gun friends" are absolutely horrified that I refuse to join the NRA and proudly support Obama and other democrats. If socially liberal republican candidates ever come back from extinction, I'd give them a good look too, but the GOP just seems nuts to me these days.
As if being a gun-toting liberal weren't weird enough, to top it all off I'm usually the only female and almost always the only gay person at every gun event I go to. Kinda lonely out there! Hoping to make some friends here.
Anyhow, that's enough about me. Give me a shout out if you're nearby.

Welcome from southern PA! I work in northern VA (Arlington) so i get to enjoy some of that Virginia charm... I am pretty new here as well and have found it to be a remarkable place.
I have friends who are east of Fredericksburg with whom we used to breed and show Bulldogs. When you have Bulldogs, you learn to know and love your vets...

Welcome!
I have the .22 LR version of that speedmaster. Mine isn't from grampa, unless I start calling random old guys at the gun shop Grampa. That could be funny.
I'm on the other side of the country, but I can surely tell you that you ain't the only queer girl with guns on this board.

Hi from WI. My wife uses a Model 24 Remington .22 short which is a slightly lighter version of your Model 241 to keep down the raccoon population around the house.

Welcome! Thanks for joining and for being out!! There is a lot to learn on some of the other forums, but often you have to endure some serious right-wing, homophobic, racist, cross-waving rants.
This is a great forum!

(Hey, folks! Be careful with that "armed hippie" monicker. William S. Burroughs used to do up a bunch of heroin and go shoot (imaginary?) coyotes with a .44 mag. That didn't end well, if I remember rightly.)

Burroughs wasn't a hippie and he did a bunch of heroin before and after everything he did. I'm not sure what point I'm making here. When I think armed hippie, I think of Wayne Kramer with an M1 carbine.

Hi Heather,
I can't say 'welcome' since you joined first but I will say I am glad you are here

Your comments about the political polarization in this country reflect my own feelings very closely.
I am fairly new to shooting. I started with a MKIII and I have 10's of thousands of rounds through it. I love that little gun. I love shooting .22lr. I used to own four .22lr pistols but last night I went to visit my shooting buddy and he was selling this beautiful little S&W 622 at an absurdly low price so now I own five!

It was so cute - what could I do?
