Back in my 20s (the 1970s) I worked as a pro musician in L.A., playing what would now be called world music -- a lot of Eastern European, Greek, Irish, etc. My first job at 17 was playing accordion at a Russian Restaurant on Geary St. in S.F., called the Bolshoi. It was replaced later by a gay bar called the Climax, also no longer there.

So, what instrument did you play at the Climax?

I just graduated in a Sociology subfield, looking at grad schools, and cooking my way through my bills at the moment.

Cooking food, not drugs, for you Breaking Bad fans out there. I can handle omelette chemistry pretty well though

Started work at 15 road a bike 7 miles one way and worked at a truck stop pumping fuel, at 18 delivered furniture for a furniture store, at 20 got married and started working for my father, in his electronics and appliance store,we sold Maytag appliances and Quasar electronics went to trade school to become a technician! at the age of 39 My father passed and I took over the business at 57 I had to quit due to a number of health issues, two of my sons and wife run the Family business, now a days I and one of my other sons make a few holsters, and some small leather work projects just to keep the mind sharp ha ha... Now I am just setting around waiting to die, but I can't do that because I have 13 grand children and I need to stay around long enough to corrupt their minds

You and I share that mission, Irish. Spoil 'em rotten and fill them with sugar, then hand them back their parents.

no grand kids yet, both of my children are still in their early 20's...but I wouldn't object too much...having little one's running about was kind of like magic all day long...never knew what the fuck was going to happen, and the crisis management was so less involved than with 'adults'. Still, I would prefer that they (my kids) get a little settled and established first.

I didn't mention working through undergrad pumping gas, working in an art gallery, and fixing dishwashers and meat grinders-saws-slicers with a commercial kitchen equipment supplier / service business. Kind of did whatever to pay tuition and eat...rent was optional, much to the chagrin of my various and many landlords...La Vie Bohème!

Now to business: Any suggestions on how to make a Spanish omelette without the yolks and the potatoes? I don't mind the egg whites, but substituting potatoes with yams, ugh.

I have no idea what a balance head is. I have been in chrome plate the pretty much the whole time but I'll tell them you are working on it and will have it done soon.

Did I say tech support at the Wendy's corporate office yet? Cause I do that part time, and full time school.

Retired in 2005

Before that ... worked as a cop for a couple of years while finishing up undergraduate school (Texas Wesleyan Univ. - Accounting)

Went to work for a major airline, after under grad, and stayed there until retirement (went to graduate school while at the airline -- Fordham University -- Marktg)
... held various jobs while at the airline, i.e.,Tkt counter Supv (Dallas Love Field) ... Sales Rep (NYC) ... Senior Analyst -- Ops Analysis ... Senior Planner -- Flight Attendant Manning (CP-V)

After retirement ... worked as a Personal Trainer for a couple of years (24 Hour Fitness)

Now ... go to the gym and work out 4 to 6 days a week ... shoot generally once every couple of weeks ... perform "honey-do's" when assigned ... other than that, I drink a little wine and chill. LOL

I played accordion at the Bolshoi. I was long gone when it turned into the Climax.

But I can't help but picture some of the elderly Russian regulars wandering into their old hangout and wondering WTF? Oh well, as long as the vodka is cold...

Trial lawyer handling wrongful death cases and personal injury cases for the past 38 years. I am very blessed to be doing something I really feel good about. There was another job I really liked about 40 years ago. Worked at a truck stop pumping fuel and fixing flats on big rigs. Physically demanding work handling those big split rims and very heavy tube-type tires. I'd be filthy dirty at the end of each shift and exhausted but really, loved it. It was very Zen work for me (before I knew what "Zen" meant).

Health care. Emergency type. Working indoors. Been doin' it for a long time, since I finished defending your liberty during that unpleasantness with Mr. Charles and The Little People of the Land of the Big Green Square.

Feeding the grandsons food the BabyBooks say you're not supposed to, teaching them how to be obnoxious with Jello and pee outside.

Grew up a military brat and started bagging groceries at the commissary for tips when I was 14, found out working for tips sucks and moved on to lifeguard/swim teacher/then swim coach. After high school joined the army (hated it), got out and had zero ambition, my uncle (a LEO) suggested same, I applied, tested and got offered a LEO position working as a Deputy Sheriff. Found out after a few years that I didn't care if someone got high or rolled a stop sign in the middle of nowhere, so realized being a LEO wasn't a good fit.

Heard about an opening at the fire department, tested, got hired on as a firefighter/medic. Best job ever, found my true calling and my place in the world; did that for five glorious years until I got hurt. Went to FL and became a professional lifeguard for a while, then drove trucks, drew blood at the hospital, worked autopsies, ran a few pools, went back to college for social work.

Worked with mentally ill homeless adults for 12 years until I was fried and could feel my compassion slipping... time to move on. Now I supervise a bunch of college kids who shelve the six million books of the stacks collection at the local university library. It's fairly boring but it pays the bills... it'll do until I can move out of IL in a couple of years and head back to FL.
