I've seen it. I'm geeked about this movie. Seriously geeked.

Yeah, I saw one of the trailers for it and I am seriously stoked to go see it.

It does look good. I believe it's a prequel / restart of the franchise.

I've heard references to it as a prequel. I would interpret "restart" as "reboot" but maybe I just missed those.
I'm easily disappointed by blockbusters so I'm not going to rejoice until I actually see it and find reason to rejoice.

here we go
Conceived as a prequel to Scott's 1979 science fiction horror film Alien, rewrites of Spaihts' script by Lindelof developed a separate story that precedes the events of Alien, but which is not directly connected to the films in the Alien franchise. According to Scott, though the film shares "strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak", and takes place in the same universe, Prometheus will explore its own mythology and ideas
In the vids I've seen it did seem to have some elements of the original yet obviously not the original story.

The trailer looks good, even though I'm not a big SF guy.
They kinda had me at the title, Prometheus being an archetypal progressive hero and all.

who is Ridley Scott kidding? It's a prequel no matter how they try to shake it. I mean c'mon, it's got the space jockey in it
either way, this is the only film coming out this year that i'm remotely excited to see

We might be stumbling upon semantics. What I'm reading there is that they've developed a story which is not directly linked to Alien but I would also expect that because it "takes place in the same universe" it would not contradict the continuity established by Alien. On the other hand, when I read the word "restart" I understand that everything is up in the air, including continuity. (A situation which allows, to take a recent example, for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which are not teenagers, not mutants, not ninjas and not turtles.)
For instance, if in a sequel to Prometheus there is a news report about the fate of the Nostromo, I'm going to expect that they'll report the ship and crew being a total loss (if they have not found Ripley yet), not the ship and crew being safe and sound due to the heroic actions of Space Marine So-and-So. It is a bit of an exaggeration but you get my drift.
I've been tempted for a moment to bring Star Wars as an example but Lucas managed to fuck that up with his reediting of episodes 4, 5, 6. ("Han shot first!!!1!!1eleven!")

After the disaster that has been everything since Aliens, I won't go just on GP. Perhaps, netflix or piratebay.
Now Dark Shadows, OTOH, I can't wait for that one

It is pretty good. I saw it at IMAX, but unlike Avatar, 3D was an after thought. I only kept the glasses on because it was blurred otherwise.
I think this is the most accurate trailer, even if it has spoilers. It is more a Sci-Fi quest for the origins of man than it is the Horror story in outer space that the first Alien was.
originally that's what it was supposed to be; A prequel to Alien, but for some reason they couldn't/didn't want to do that so they took it off in it's own direction.

It is pretty much a prequel

meh...Sanaa Lathan is too hot for a heterosexual guy to pass up. I liked "Alien vs. Predator".

I've heard it's close but not quite a prequel. Same universe, but since that isn't the ship that was discovered by the Nostromo it's more of an "also occurred". A side-story.

No, not exactly...When you see it, you'll probably be confused. If you check out the Prometheus Form, it will help clarify. There are wrinkles I think that were purposely put in the plot. The ships are 30 years apart and land on two different planetoids. They were both owned by Weyland Industries. I think the mining ship was rerouted to the Prometheus's area.
Camreon might be doing Prometheus II. I hope he uses his 3D system. 3D wasn't necessary for this film. No need to pay extra for IMAX.
I liked it, but I liked Avatar better. Prometheus story is better, but the effects and visuals are better in Avatar.

I love it when it is actually 3D. Avatar was incredible. With Prometheus, it was the most disappointing aspect of the movie. Prometheus isn't really shot in 3D, but was remastered for IMAX. Only 3D you noticed were when the maps were projected into thin air. It was not worth $16.00
Cameron will certainly be different!

I didn't watch it in 3D, didn't hurt me. I didn't have the high expectations a lot of people had going into it, I just wanted to be entertained. So I had a goodtime.

All of the "scientists" were idiots not worthy of a degree, but otherwise it was amusing. I really liked the ship design of the Prometheus.

I liked it too. If the Scientists were stupid, the Android was David was completely irrational and did not have Three Laws of Robotics incorporated into him. I guess Ash didn't either.
A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

I thought the Prometheus looked like Serenity's big brother.
