OK. Here's the stock that little pic came from.

This is from the membership cards thread. This is what happens with pine tar and flamed maple. I don't know whether you all saw this pic buried down in that other thread, so here it is, Turk Mauser round for scale. It's a post-war Czech 98 Mauser in 8 mm.

For those of you who don't know this stock, it went through a fire at Great American Gunstocks down in Yuba City, along with my Frankenmosin stock. This one wasn't burned nearly as badly as the Mosin stock was. This one still has blackened areas inside, like in the well, but none shows outside. It's repaired in several places with maple.

That's 140 year old cedar taken from a fence we took down in the 80's. Same wood I made the tool box out of, but this is unfinished, and the tool box is with BLO. Most of the wood was quarter sawn. That lip there with the rogue wave on it is to clamp boards to in the vertical position with a lip below in the tray at the same distance, as there's about two inches behind there for the clamping. The other side has no lip to clamp boards horizontally. The rest of it is nice straight grain. Really nice stuff. Back then they made fences out of this stuff. Can you believe it? Made a great and very stable tool box. Once cedar is dry, it is very stable.

Here are some antique muzzleloaders that my friend Dave and I own.
We have about 30 or so that we take with us as we travel to rendezvous and history fair events.
Our museum is a bit different than most as we encourage you to pick one or two up and ask questions.
We even will let you shoot one with us!

What's the weight on that rig? Any trouble getting it to cycle with the shorter barrel?

It looks awesome.

Sonofgun,
The second long gun from the right is a restored North West Trade Gun.
The gun came to us Converted to percussion and in a stock that was to far gone to save.
The lock , barrel and furniture are all original , but it has been restocked.
Lock markings are "Parker Field &Co. 1837."
It is in .20 gauge , which is uncommon as many are .24 / .28 gauge.
