Anti-Slavery Measure Proposition 6 Fails, Allowing Forced Labor to Continue in California Prisons

Well now isn't that nice. This sets the stage for forced illegal immigration labor. Or anyone else they deem as an enemy of the MAGA State like black people. Or Gay &Trans people.
Also Private prisons stock surged when this failed. The Trump campaign appointed Steven Miller (AKA Mr. Nazi Jew hater and anyone of color) Miller as his deputy chief of staff for policy, which would likely task an immigration hard-liner to the job of implementing Trump's mass deportation plan.

Private prisons are going to ask for more money as they already house illegal aliens. They won't let them go in a timely manner either. If you get in trouble inside, and you will get in trouble that means they get to keep you in prison longer, and the longer you stay the more they make.

See where this is going? Internment camps galore.
Under state law, most California prisoners are required to work. Like many other states, California forbids slavery but allows involuntary servitude to punish someone for a crime. That distinction allows state prisoners and people in jail to work without many of the same protections — minimum wage and benefits — as other California workers.

As CT said, this is a CA ballot initiative, it has nothing to do with the federal penal system. California counties have 30 days to canvass and report final totals to the CA Secretary of State, so these aren't the final totals.
Proposition 6 Eliminates Forcing Inmates to Work
A lot of those normally blue counties in CA voted NO.

Me? Oh no not me, I ain't a californian and although I am not it will play into the fed/state prison system.
Good ole Steven Miller will make it so.

As far as state initiatives, see CO and across the nation where black people are getting racist text messages that "they were chosen to pick cotton,
The message tells the recipient they have been selected to pick cotton at the nearest plantation, to be ready by a certain time to be taken in a van and that they will undergo an intense search upon arrival.
It's a coming, get ready. Slavery is back, and thoise independents who can't make up their minds are more than likely responsible.

Hate is contagious. And there will be NO MORE reforming prisoners.

Do you realize we have had prison slave labor here in CA for quite some time? As gross as it is that this didn't pass to get rid of the current law, it's the status quo of the bluest state in the country. It's got no connection to MAGA.

I am absolutely OK. It's the voters in CA and other states that vote for legalized prison labor thats not ok.
In my state you can volunteer and if you do get on the outs in fresh air digging weeds, you get time off. Thats the way it should be.

Again, voters didn't vote for slavery in CA. It already existed.

^^ Heh...probably better than yours! :-D

If you're going to get all upset, don't do it at Trump this time, but rather do so at the people who are actually responsible for rejecting this proposition, and that's California voters. Actually make some sense this time and direct your disappointment--or whatever it is--at those voters...including those in the Bay Area where you live (and where I'm from) who voted against it.

So you are a Californian at least part time. Just because someone has a federal, state, county or city pension, doesn't mean the person is obligated to vote a particular party line, that sounds like the Chinese Communist Party. Civil servants are expected to be non-partisan while serving in government. Just because someone has a union retirement, doesn't mean they have to vote Democratic.

Just wondering how your pension is doing. Most should be doing great since they all play the stock markets. But wit till the market crashes due to Trumps tarriffs.

Problem is if you remember over in Wisconsin was it, they started going after pensions because the state was in terrible debt.
