"Just 13% of voters up for grabs ahead of presidential election."

With just weeks to go until the presidential election, the results could come down to a mere 13% of undecided voters, according to a new report released Thursday from Pew Research Center. The poll results underscore just how tight the race between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will be and how small the faction of voters still up for grabs is. According to the poll, 82% of voters are already certain about which candidate they will vote for, with 42% saying they will support Harris and 40% indicating they will support Trump. 5% of voters say they will vote for a third-party candidate.

That leaves 13% who are uncertain about which candidate they will vote for. Among that 13% of voters, 8% say they have a preference for one of the candidates but could still change their minds — with the group being evenly split between support for Harris (4%) and Trump (4%). The other 5% of the undecided group say they only lean towards one of the two main party candidates — 3% lean towards Harris and 2% lean Trump. Both Trump and Harris have expended considerable energy trying to win over undecided voters.

Much of Trump's strategy this summer — including editing the GOP platform — has been geared towards persuading undecided or unsure voters to support him. Harris rolled out a new policy proposal earlier this week targeting the "sandwich generation" of Americans caring for elders and children — a group that contains a high proportion of undecided voters.

If Trump wins, the person Democrats should blame is Biden, his family and his advisors. If Biden said last October that he wouldn't seek reelection, Democrats could have had an open primary and Democratic voters would have had a choice. Republicans won't have a choice until Trump is off the ballot and not trying to run the Republican Party, which might not happen until he's 6 feet under.

Right now Trump has a small lead in all the battleground/swing states except Wisconsin and polling in Wisconsin has been unreliable over the last cycles. We just have to wait until election night to see who is the winner.

The only thing undecided is can I vote for someone that has demonstrated supporting several agendas that I simply can’t support. If I can’t it’ll be a blank or third party. So I shouldn’t be trusted to vote, thanks Eris.
I knew I'd regret posting that. I apologize to everyone I offended.

Hard to post much of anything lately without offending someone.

Here's hoping things get better in January. Seems everyone is tense these days. And for good reasons. The greater world is chaos. Enjoy those quieter moments.

There is no 2024 subforum that I've seen. There are subforums for 2016, 2018 and 2020, but nothing for 2022 or 2024.

Yup, Nov 5th isn't the end. The Electoral College Reform Act of 2022 made important changes to avoid problems experienced in the 2020 election. Lawsuits that challenge electors must be resolved by December 11th . Three judge federal panels and SCOTUS must resolve the cases expeditiously. On December 17th the electors meet in their state capitals and vote for president and vice president. Ironically January 6, 2025 is the date the votes are counted before a joint session of Congress. The vice president's position in this joint session is strictly ministerial. And January 20th is Inauguration Day. I'll be glad when we reach February 2025.

Yes, please

Although I prefer the name we use on th4e Discord server for the similar channel: Resistance is NOT Futile
Thanks, that's helpful for me and others. IIRC a new member years ago named Queenie wanted to change the names of the forums. It's probably less confusing to use "General Discussion Forum" and "Political Discussion Forum", especially for new members. That's just a suggestion.

I like the playfulness of the names. Could just add “resistance is futile - political” , and “rainbows and unicorns - general”, but overall the naming shouldn’t confuse since there is currently a description of the topic matter already.

Perhaps on the “rainbows and unicorns” add all political in “resistance is futile” for clarity.

I kinda like Rise of the Resistance. Yeah I'm a Star Wars geek.
The phrase is from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" not "Dr Who". It is something the Borg say "Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated."

I deleted my comment expressing a similar sentiment because it was inappropriate, so I can't exactly let yours stand, now can I?

This very topic is part of why some people had their access to the political subforums removed. If we can't keep this thread friendly then I will close it.

Oh so any political jousting isn't allowed? Or is it just for members? I didn't realize that. I didn't think I said anything offensive Eris.

No, it's just that arguments over the topic of not voting or voting 3rd party have created problems on the forums many times. Those arguments get very heated and I can't even count the number of times I have had to step in to calm things down. The topic also generates much more than it's fair share of abuse reports.

And it has nothing to do with whether or not someone is officially a member of the LGC. Remember, I said that I deleted my own comment because I too crossed the line with it and I rightly got called out on it. I have to live by the same rules that everyone else does.

Notably: be civil. Don't insult other forum members, directly or indirectly. All that does is start pointless arguments.

Well said Eris ! People around here have stated their opinions on the presidential candidates and rehashing it in a snarky way just raises peoples blood pressure. We agree on a lot more things than with disagree on. As of tomorrow there will be 3 weeks to election day, though most people will have voted before then. Then we go on with our lives.
