'A Pariah State': Israel Denounced for Banning UN Chief

1
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Wednesday reiterated his urgent call for an end to violence and a diplomatic resolution in the Middle East shortly after Israel's foreign minister declared that the U.N. chief was barred from entering the country, a move that drew international condemnation.

"The raging fires in the Middle East are fast becoming an inferno," Guterres told a meeting of the U.N. Security Council, denouncing Israel's "relentless airstrikes across Lebanon," devastation of the Gaza Strip, and obstruction of a cease-fire agreement that could pull the region back from the brink of all-out war.

"Since last October, Israel has conducted in Gaza the most deadly and destructive military campaign in my years as secretary-general," said Guterres. "The suffering endured by the Palestinian people in Gaza is beyond imagination."

Guterres also condemned Hezbollah's "continued rocket and missile attacks on Israel" and Iran's retaliatory ballistic missile strikes against Israeli military targets. As he did so, Guterres pushed back on Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz's accusation that the U.N. chief did not repudiate the Iranian attack with his brief Tuesday statement.

"As I did in relation to the Iranian attack in April—and as should have been obvious yesterday in the context of the condemnation I expressed—I again strongly condemn yesterday's massive missile attack by Iran on Israel," Guterres said Wednesday. "It is high time to stop the sickening cycle of escalation after escalation that is leading the people of the Middle East straight over the cliff."

"Each escalation has served as a pretext for the next," he continued. "We must never lose sight of the tremendous toll that this growing conflict is taking on civilians. We cannot look away from systematic violations of international humanitarian law. This deadly cycle of tit-for-tat violence must stop. Time is running out."

The Israeli foreign minister's designation of Guterres—a persistent and vocal advocate for peace—as "persona non grata" means the U.N. chief is barred from entering Israel as a diplomat, but Israeli journalist Yanir Cozin pointed out that he could get into the country with a non-diplomatic passport.

Amar Bendjama, Algeria's ambassador to the U.N., told the Security Council on Wednesday that the Israeli foreign minister's decision reflects the Israeli government's "clear disdain of the U.N. system and the entire international community."

"Our inaction has effectively granted Israel carte blanche to continue its rampage in Gaza, in the West Bank—carte blanche to escalate against Lebanon and pursue a bloody agenda of death and destruction," said Bendjama.

Honestly, speaking, if I had my way we would not only stop selling offensive arms to Israel, we would also provide defensive arms to the Palestinians. Let them have their own Iron Dome air defense system to keep the Israeli air force at bay. Even up the sides a bit. I bet Israel would be far less interested in war if there was a chance of their own people getting hurt.

But that's all I'm going to say on the matter.

Hate for the Jewish People knows no limit is space or time.

After those kind Jihadists have cleared the area from river to sea, they be knocking on the doors of New York. Allah's work continues.

Perhaps we should stop supplying arms to our own citizens, then the bad guys would leave us alone, right?

This particular iteration of state sponsored gun play seems to get a bit more attention than some others. Who is supplying Hamas, Hezbollah, Al-Qaeda? Does anyone think that should Israel lay down arms, that those whom Allah has instructed to wipe Jews from the river to the sea will do the same?

If only we hadn’t stuck our big noses in that Hitler business a while back this would all be history and we could get back to throwing Christians into the mouths of lions once again. Of course, atheists like myself are among the infidel too. Convert, tax, kill… all good.

Of all the peoples in the world, only Jews are forever denied by everyone the right to defend themselves, and the right to eliminate constant threats.
This is why most of us with Jewish heritage, from devout agnostics like me to "black hat" Haredi learn from early childhood that sooner or later, the world will always turn on us. I've faced VIOLENT anti-Semitism since I was 10 years old. I never lived in a "safe place" where Jews could live fearlessly. Neither has my wife, who faced violence also as a child. So has everyone in my family.

I've YET to hear anyone give a good answer how Israel should have responded to October 7th, or to Hezbollah's and Houthis' massive missile attacks. And why the HELL has Iran attacked Israel and somehow, you all think Israel should just say "That's OK".

Face it. None of you give a flying FUCK if the ONLY Jewish majority nation, the same size and population of New Jersey, is wiped off the Earth. There are over 150 majority Christian nations, roughly 50 Muslim-Majority nations, but only one, ONE Jewish state--and the world and you all want it GONE!

It's that thinking that's why I am now armed. Because sooner or later, you and yours will inevitably turn on me and mine. 3000 years of history keeps being repeated.

I'm done with you fake "leftist Progressives" who are happy to embrace obvious Jew-hating. I'm signing off the forum now.

Banning topics is for kids not quite of age to be self-aware enough to regulate.

Adults slowly gain self-awareness to learn about their injuries and grow in spirit as they heal. In this case, Israel & Palestine is the prime example of the challenge of our times. It is our spiritual “moonshot” for understanding trauma and human consciousness. It is the evolutionary reason why we struggle not to kill ourselves as a species ever since we came down from the trees and became clever enough to create atomic weapons (not so long ago evolutionary-speaking).

And we are getting pretty darned close to doomsday fuse-lighting in the Middle East, folks…

The point is to learn to listen to the truth about generational trauma from people like YT who experienced it and speak in fearful and angry tones. Their personal truths about such injuries to their families must be shared. And then the next great leap in human evolution is a difficult personal decision: is the recognition of when not to defend oneself if the act means passing on the same trauma into innocent civilians and children because you now see threats from all living things. We learn to recognize trauma similar to a “communicable disease” and choosing to wear masks and self-isolate if we are still healing. It is choosing not to become the monster that you wanted to destroy! We see the same pattern in family abuse, where abused children have the highest chance of abusing their own kids later on. Comic book movies have popularized the idea of the wounded villain with their understandable back-story of injustice and rage being the reason for destroying the world, often an immature if tragic understanding of their place outside of society due to an original injustice suffered when they were young: a developmental trauma that was never fully healed.

The moment we understand that the monster we wished to destroy and save our inner child from actually shares our own shadow, then we are adult enough to make the choice: save our inner child by choosing innaction, or destroy childhood by setting the house on fire out of compensatory rage.

I too am not for banning topics, but I don't own this forum or moderate it, owners and moderators make the rules. YT and I have not agreed on every topic, but I respect his opinions and hope he has not departed permanently. I like to hear different opinions as long as it's civil. I don't know everything and I'm open to learning from others and hope others are open to my opinions.

Come on, people, calm down. No one has suggested banning any topics on the forums. But on the Discord server we had a build up over a couple of months as things got more and more acrimonius with accusations of antisemitism on one side and genocide on the other. Things got so bad that multiple LGC members quit the Discord server over it and there was actual hatred being expressed on a daily basis.

That hasn't happened here.

Yet.

Don't let it happen.

I have no hate for anyone, but I have strong objections to the inequality and injustice that Palestinians have suffered since 1948 with our government’s support. I object to the historic means by which Israel was created and the involvement of governments like ours and Britain pushed by the likes of Lord Rothschild and the Balfour Declaration in 1917. There’s a lot of detail I could go into and points that I believe are unjust toward Palestinians and Arabs in general in the area, but none of that should be considered anti-Semitic. If someone chooses to get offended over a desire to see fairness and equality then I have nothing much to say to that individual.

At minimum this is required, but that requires we do not support Israel without question. We have to make Israel realize that the Palestinian question has to be addressed and addressed with actually listening to the Palestinian people.

Many Jews and Arabs in the US feel under threat even though they haven't taken sides in the Middle East conflict. Instances of antisemitism have sharply increased in the US and police in the major Jewish population centers that are the New York City/New Jersey metro area and the metro areas of Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago have increased patrols around places of worship. These are very unsettling times both domestically and internationally.
