PSA - Web Data Breach

If you want to know if you were in the latest personal info data breach on the web go to the following link. I had about 10 hits with four that had all my data Name, SSN, Addy. I put credit lock on all three credit bureaus. I already had credit bureau accounts with two due to past breaches with free blocks by those companies breached. Had to create account on third bureau, which was ezpz. Scary shit on the webster!

Google NPD - it's legit and their screw up. Do it don't do it, your choice. This security breach was serious enough that I wasn't willing not to do something.
The only thing you have to input is your name, State and birthdate - when results turn up it will show what is exposed for you - you don't input email or phone number, those fuckers already have it. I was blown away when I saw how many hits I had, even with old address from 30+ years ago.

Yep, I was in there multiple times, every address I ever lived at, correct phone numbers and SSN, as was my father with his DOB and SSN (they * out all but the last two digits) and he passed away 24 years ago.

So great, someone has all of my info and it is readily available to the world, it seems. But then it looks like they have it for everyone, so not that much we can do about it.

You are correct, they don't ask for email or phone #. My bad.

Over the years I've been notified of multiple data breaches that involved my personal data leaked from banks to cable providers to retirement data and the Equifax hack. I check my credit report monthly.

PC Magazine, a trusted source has an article on the sites.
“Most of the time, when Social Security numbers are sold on the dark web, they are sold to a single customer,” he added. “Now 272 million leaked. This will definitely be used for identity theft and spammers.”

In addition, about 20% of the records in the database appear to be legitimate, according to Atlas, which has been cross-referencing the details in the leak with records found in other breaches.

That said, the information from the National Public Data leak likely impacts older Americans more than younger adults since the average age of the people contained in the database is 70. Another 2 million people in the database are also over 120 years old, an indicator that some of the information belongs to the deceased. Meanwhile, all the records appear to belong to people born before Jan. 1, 2002, added Atlas Privacy’s Chief Strategy Officer Zack Ganot.

Not all the information in the database is accurate either. Ganot noted the archive didn’t have the correct details on himself. Still, others might be shocked to see highly accurate records in the database, including their correct date of birth, Social Security number, and historic mailing addresses going back to at least the 1990s.

In addition to the credit bureau credit blocks, all my credit cards are set at low $ amount transactions and notified immediately, same for bank, savings, IRA. Any transaction I'm alerted on cell and email.
I was also surprised how many people in Texas share my first and last name as I can remember way back when my last name was the only one in telephone book white pages. For the younger members here, a telephone book showed your name, address and phone number and were distributed yearly no charge! LOL

Organizations are so lax with our personal data and I don't see our laws and law enforcement protecting us. We really need to tighten up our state and federal privacy and hacking laws. One of the entities that was hacked was the cancer treatment center I went to, so my medical files are probably someplace on the internet. One of the big reasons why I don't want my medical data on the internet, but our insurance carriers do it anyway.

Healthcare hacks are where my two initial free monitorings started. I just extended one and the other is good thru 2026. I'd not be surprised my last cystoscopy or colonoscopy videos aren't on dark web somewhere. LOL

Just got notified that my data was part of the National Public Data dot com data breach, which includes my SSAN and other personal information. I put a freeze on my credit file, a pain because you have to do it individually with Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. I was just going to do a Credit Alert, but Krebs recommends a Credit or Security Freeze, probably better since I don't know how much personal data was breached. I'm in the age range of those whose data was leaked by the NPD hack.

highdesert - the only down side to this is receiving constant offers from the credit bureaus to up grade your coverage beyond the free security freeze. I had to unsubscribe from their emails/text but still accept notices of outside access. I also have all my credit cards set to notify me of any purchases over their minimum charge, which ranges from $1 to $10 on my 4 credit cards. I do not have any debt cards and never will. When I make an on line purchase or in person at store. I'm notified of the purchase before I even get a receipt by my cell phone.

Thanks for the heads up wino, I'll just unsubscribe to them. It's just frustrating since we work hard and retire with good credit and then companies get hacked and leak our personal information. Hope there is a class action lawsuit again National Public Data, I'd sign onto that one.

Starting this AM I've had a deluge of phishing emails about 25+ up to now. Suspect it has to do with this damned breach.

The e-mail account I use most often i.e., for vendors, doctors...has been full of spam for months. I delete it every morning. I don't know if that e-mail was included in the National Public Data breach or it was CalPERS retiree data that was breached or the vendors were hacked. I had dozens a day, it's decreased this month to about 1 or 2 a day. I was to the point of closing it down, but I can't remember who all have that e-mail address. Hang in there Wino.
