I've been voting regularly since 1976, and have never once found a candidate I trust, with the possible exception of President Obama, who I may trust as long as I have a direct sightline.

Once I do vote for someone, I keep a careful eye on them. Precisely because I don't trust them.

I, too, voted for the first time in a Presidential election in 1976. I trust Jimmy Carter and mostly trust Obama, and both far more than any other candidate in the 13 elections including this one, since then. Hope for the best, expect the worst. The only Republican President in that time who gave me ANY reason for hope ever (and it wasn't often) was Bush I.

I trust Jimmy Carter now. I didn't trust him when he was in office, I thought he was too weak.

Now I see that his strength, humanity and manhood were simply rooted in areas other than politics.

I learned that from this board some time back. I don't remember who said it. But I must say, "Trusting a politician is an exercise in foolishness" is a highly appropriate statement that could be applied through the ages.

Perhaps if the Democrats hadn't knocked all those holes in the ship, thus helping cause it to sink, those who now criticize the Democrats wouldn't be doing so. Not saying the Democrats were alone; the Republicans knocked plenty of their own holes, too. But giving the Democrats a "pass" just because they're not Republicans doesn't work, either, when their actions show that neither one of them wants to actually fix the holes and keep it from sinking.

Dun't bug me that folks feel that The Blue Team is the lesser of two present dangers and evils and thus they will cast their vote for that team. It dun't upset me nor vex me that other folks feel that Team Red is the lesser of the two present dangers and evils and thus they will cast their vote for that team.

What *does* make me irritated and prompts me to withdraw is when folks decide that their team really does have the correct answers, mindset, and platform and that for me not to recognise that their team is worthy of *my* vote means I'm stupid or ignorant. The insinuations that I'm not clever enough to pour piss out of a boot (or water out of a bucket with instructions) because I will not buy that their team is all that and a bag of chips is inappropriate.

We got shit for parties and shit for candidates and this Republic will suffer no matter who is elected. They all suck - which one sucks less is yer opinion and the perception of that is not my failure. You do you and I'll do me as the saying goes. it's the Liberal Way, is it not?

I've been meaning to say this, and I keep forgetting to do so.

I didn't know Johnson was a segregationist. He's what, 1960, then the assassination, so 1964, isn't that right?

I was seven, so I wasn't paying close attention to politics yet.

That would mean taking the individual off my “foe” list. I see the uncalled for name calling and demeaning statements only when others quote this individual.
