As far as whether or not debates and endorsements actually make a difference, I think it depends. If Harris had totally fumbled the debate, it would have hurt her. If she'd walked out there and pulled a Biden, her campaign would be over. Trump, on the other hand, could have walked on stage, dropped trou and pooped on the floor, and it wouldn't have moved the needle either way.
Same with the endorsement. If Swift didn't endorse Harris, people would talk about it. People would ask why. They'd say, "she endorsed Biden, what's different this time?" We'd see, "Swift snubs Harris," headlines. It would have hurt her.
Trump's vote share is baked in. He doesn't need to be consistent or make sense. It doesn't matter what he does or doesn't do. Debate, don't debate, stick to policy, go off on tangents, it doesn't matter, there's no risk for him. Harris, on the other hand, is navigating a minefield and every step matters.
Also, as to entertainers staying out of politics, I disagree. No one's job should preclude them from voicing their opinion (unless you're a judge or something or have a job that actually requires you to appear impartial). I think that's a weirdly anti American, anti democratic, anti first amendment position to take.
"I understand people having to make themselves known and felt and seen," she told the magazine. "And of course Black lives matter. Do we think our little white asses are the only ones that matter? No!" - Dolly Parton, 2020
I also love Dolly, and although I'm not a Swiftie, I think she's pretty cool too.
Whatever I said above, just pretend I included the obligatory “both sides,” especially if I said something mean about Trump (don’t want to hurt any feelings).
