Thanks TT, I'm a distance away I'm just getting the smoke right now. Due to the heat wave people in the LA Basin have been loosing power, thankfully no power interruptions in my area

Today and tomorrow the temps will be 100F in my area and then start cooling. I feel sorry for the firefighters, miserable terrain and 100+ temps. .

Glad to hear they extinguished the fire in your area featureless. It's a cycle, fire, rain, new growth, fire and Diablo/Santa Ana winds and drought in between.

The Line Fire is now over 23,714 acres, it jumped over 2,000 acres since yesterday and is 5% contained. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept is really stretched, I've seen fewer patrol SUVs in my area which they police. The California National Guard will be deployed including:
Four UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters for water bucket-dropping operations Two C-130 aircraft with Modular Airborne Fire Fighting Systems (MAFFS). Four 20-person hand crews (80 soldiers). They report to Camp Roberts tomorrow (Sept. 10) for equipment distribution and will be assigned to the Line Fire on Thursday in support of CAL FIRE. One military police company to support the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department with traffic control points in evacuated areas

It's forecast to be cooler today.

Here is a less than one minute news report from one of our local stations showing how fuel breaks made ten years ago actually prevented the fire from moving into two small mountain communities.

To me this looks like solid evidence that proper forest management techniques work to prevent runaway fires. This area is just up the hill from me. With data like this, I think we can anticipate more of these kinds of fire breaks being hacked out in forests around the country.

91 today, which is pretty well within normal for this time of year. It's unfortunate that our SoCal brothers and sisters are suffering from heat and fires. The Airport Fire in Orange County is threatening TV transmission towers, which portends tragedy for SoCal TV viewers.

There are now 3 major fires in Southern California, the Line Fire in the San Bernardino Mountains at over 34,000 acres and 14% contained, the Bridge Fire in the San Gabriel Mountains between San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties that took out a ski resort. It started Sunday at 8,000 acres and jumped to almost 47,000 and 0% contained. And the Airport Fire in Orange County that started in the Trabuco Canyon and is no spreading into Riverside County and the San Jacinto Mountains, it's over 22,000 acres and 0% contained.

It's cooler this morning but still warm and smoky, we're in a cool down phase at least through the weekend. it's already 75F at 5:15 am with a forecasted high of 89F, which means it will go into the 90s.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept arrested a 34 year old man and charged him with setting the Line Fire.

Yup!

We've identified a few more trees near the house to take down this winter. I hate to do it, but... Every fire I look at them and think 50 feet just isn't enough.
I understand, I hated to get rid of mine because they were shade during the ever hotter summers. I did it before my new insurance carrier required it. They did an exterior inspection with a drone before they renewed this year.

The Bridge Fire in San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties jumped to 50,258 acres with 0% contained, it's now in the Angeles National Forest. At least the weather is cooler, 64F in my area this morning with a high of 88F, it's even cooler in the fire areas due being closer to the coast and higher elevations. No more high temps for the next 10 days in the forecast.

The cooler weather is really nice, night time lows in the 60s and day time highs in the 80s. The weather forecast has temps jumping back into the 90s starting on Sept 22nd.

In the San Bernardino Mountains the night time lows are in the 40s, which is good for firefighters working the Line Fire which is now 25% contained. The Bridge Fire in the wilderness areas where Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties meet is now 3% contained and the Airport Fire in Orange and Riverside counties that started in Trabuco Canyon and moved into the San Jacinto Mtns is 9% contained. And this is only the start of the 2024 fire season in southern California.

Since Wednesday I've only turned on my a/c late in the afternoon just to cool the house down and then off as usual when I go to bed. Hopefully my So Cal Edison bill will be much lower this month.

The cooler temps have helped firefighters get more containment around the three southern California fires. The Line Fire is 29% contained, the Airport Fire is 19% contained and the Bridge Fire is 5% contained. The number of acres burned in the three fires so far is 115,719, which dwarfs the Park Fire in CDF's area which burned 429,603 acres and is still listed as active by Cal Fire even though it's 99% contained. The difference is these fires are in the largest metro area in CA as opposed to rural Nor Cal.

We're not getting the heavy smoke in my area like we were, but there is all that particulate matter that you can't see that's still in the air.

That's a heck of a pic there.

In my area we are expecting a high of 78 today, and a lower high than that on Monday. Wowzers. Temps will go up toward the end of the week, but 78 is very welcome. We could use some rain. More than just some, but I think we'll have to wait some several weeks or more for that.
