I'm a gigantic Dead Head and love everything in the "jamband" wheelhouse. Lately though, I've been going down a bluegrass rabbithole. The greats: Tony Rice, Doc Watson, Norman Blake... are great, but there are some newcomers who are making some waves: Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, Chris Thile...

Really though, I'll listen to anything with a little soul: reggae, dub, funk, jazz, rock, folk (I even dig electronic music)... The only things I don't like are "new country," bubblegum pop, and elevator music.

Whatever I said above, just pretend I included the obligatory “both sides,” especially if I said something mean about Trump (don’t want to hurt any feelings).

Good music is just that, even an amateur attempt. Bad music is a waste of time.

Cool. What do you play? I'm a guitar player. I'm not in a band but I frequent a few local bluegrass jams.

My son is 11 and he plays guitar and piano. He just started sixth grade at a public performing arts middle school here in Savannah. He auditioned for their piano program and rocked it!

My son played Tuba and Baritone. Mine is guitar, and I found some old recordings online of Elizabeth Cotten playing "Goin' Down the Road Feelin' Bad" left handed on a right hand strung guitar. Now, that is a tough finger pickin' version to chase down by a right handed guy playing a right handed strung guitar, I tell you what.

I bought him a guitar, but we rented the tuba and the baritone. He plays piano as well, and he got my wife's family's piano when her mom and dad passed. He got it tuned after the move and enjoys poking away at it. Now he plays "You are my sunshine" to his wife. Sweet.

I've found myself returning to and listening to three songs in recent days. I've been thinking about it, because I'm a rock and blues guy, not a country guy, I didn't think the songs were particularly good when I first heard them, they haven't improved any, and yet...

Taxi, Harry Chapin
Sequel, Harry Chapin
Cover Me Up, Jason Isbell
