New ABC News-Washington Post poll shows Trump 10 points ahead of Biden.

1
A Washington Post-ABC News poll finds President Biden struggling to gain approval from a skeptical public, with dissatisfaction growing over his handling of the economy and immigration, a rising share saying the United States is doing too much to aid Ukraine in its war with Russia and broad concerns about his age as he seeks a second term.

Biden and former president Donald Trump appear headed for a rematch of their 2020 contest, although more than 3 in 5 Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say they would prefer a nominee other than the president. But Biden’s advisers have argued that he is the strongest Democrat for 2024 and those who wish for someone else share no consensus on who that should be, with 8 percent naming Vice President Harris, 8 percent naming Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and 20 percent saying they prefer “just someone else.” The Post-ABC poll shows Biden trailing Trump by 10 percentage points at this early stage in the election cycle, although the sizable margin of Trump’s lead in this survey is significantly at odds with other public polls that show the general election contest a virtual dead heat. The difference between this poll and others, as well as the unusual makeup of Trump’s and Biden’s coalitions in this survey, suggest it is probably an outlier.
The poll also asked people whether, looking back, approve or disapprove of the way Trump handled the job of being president. The result was 48 percent saying they approve and 49 percent saying they disapprove. That 48 percent approval is 10 points better than when he left office in January 2021 and higher than it was through nearly the entirety of his presidency. Overall, roughly 3 in 4 Americans say the economy is not so good or poor, and despite the unemployment rate staying below 4 percent for more than a year, 57 percent rate it negatively. There are even worse ratings of gas or energy prices (87 percent say not so good or poor), which have recently risen again, and food prices (a 91 percent negative rating). Asked about Biden’s handling of the immigration situation at the U.S.-Mexico border, 23 percent say they approve while 62 percent say they disapprove. That compares with 28 percent approval and 59 percent disapproval in February.

It could be an outlier we'll have to wait for more polling. Even including it in the polling averages doesn't put Trump comfortably ahead, in this aggregation Trump is ahead 1.1 points which is within the margin of error of most polls. This was done by Abt and Associates for WaPo-ABC, Abt is reputable I worked with them on a contract years ago.

The economy is getting there but Biden needs to do something about immigration. Stories of towns like Eagle Point, TX getting overwhelmed with migrants doesn't help him.

ABC is one of the six big media conglomerates who control nearly all of what America sees.

WaPo is owned by an oligarch with so much money he has his own space ship.
Six years into his ownership of the Post, Bezos often speaks about how rewarding the experience has been. “I know that when I’m 90, it’s going to be one of the things I’m most proud of, that I took on the Washington Post and helped them through a very rough transition,” he said in an interview in 2018.

gnore the Washington Post – ABC poll,” Sabato wrote. “It’s a ridiculous outlier (Trump up 10 over Biden—laughable). My question: How could you even publish a poll so absurd on its face? Will be a lingering embarrassment for you.”

Sabato added in a subsequent post, “just plain embarrassing—for them.”

Sabato was not alone in calling out the Post and ABC. New York Times chief political analyst Nate Cohn noted that the Post and ABC also referred to their previous Trump-Biden poll as an outlier.

“I do have a fairly major quibble with ABC/Post here: if you release consecutive ‘outlying’ poll results — R+7 in May, R+10 today — you don’t get to dismiss your results,” Cohn wrote on X. “If it happens twice in a row in the same race, it’s clear that this is the result of some element of your approach, and either you either need to decide you’re good with it and defend it or you need to go home.”

In the Battle of the Oligarchs, I'd rather see them go at it with broadswords. Too many voters can't pour sand out a golf shoe with instructions printed between the cleats.

Can't read around cleats, everyone knows that. Churchill said that the best argument against democracy is a five minute talk with an average voter.

I disagreed with him until Trump was elected.

It very well could be an outlier, we just have to wait for more polls to come out. Biden and Trump have been running neck and neck in the polls and there hasn't been any major event that would trigger a 10 point jump in favor of Trump. Susquehanna poll had Biden ahead by 13 points in February, but most of the differences have been by 1, 2, 3 or 4 points within the margin of error of the polls.

I hope it's an outlier BUT ...

it's September of 2023 and I am seeing regular fairly large, well organized TRUMP 2024 street rallies, TRUMP 2024 caravans, TRUMP 2024 yard signs.

The Presidential Election is over a year in the future, TRUMP is currently facing court case after court case, law suit after law suit, fine after fine and the visible support already exceeds what I witnessed in 2016 & 2020. The signs, flags, banner and handouts are uniform, professionally done and are seen in news stories from different parts of the nation.

Most concerning for me is that I'm not seeing VOTE for TRUMP signs but rather the notion that TRUMP is needed to save the American Way, to protect a Godly Nation, to protect Family Values, to oppose a fascist communist government. The message is "Stop the lies", "Stop the FBI and Department of Injustice", "Protect the American Way of Life" and "Stop Biden from allowing the Cartels in".

One comment that really summed the current state up was a mother who posted "I'd rather my children grow up ignorant than liberal".

I am so entirely disappointed these are the two best candidates we can come up with.
I agree with both parts of your comment. Disappointed, is on the mild side of my feelings. Disgusted is more to it, but anymore clear comment isn’t fit to write.

I think the other side hates Biden and Harris more than we hate tRump. I didn't see half the stickers on vehicles like I do now.

We get the candidates we get.

Until someone successfully implements a model, mechanism, method, process or procedure to get different candidates we will continue getting only those candidates selected by the oligarchs.

Frankly, until either total collapse or some reformation I see little hope of any change. When what IS seen are corporations marketing themselves as anti-woke the concept of progressive, liberal, socialist candidates even running much less getting elected seems not just unlikely but rather impossible.

Yup, the system isn't going to change and I don't see either party kicking out their billionaire donors. Small donor contributions can be impressive, but they're not going to be enough to win a presidential election. And union donations are going down, not up. An NBC News poll Biden's approval rating stands at 41% approve and 56% disapprove.
Deeper inside those numbers, Biden is underwater among voters between the ages of 18 and 34 (46% of them approve of his job performance), all women (46%), Latinos (43%) and independents (36%). What’s more, the NBC News poll finds 37% of voters approve of Biden’s handling of the economy, and 41% approve of his handling of foreign policy.
Looking ahead to the 2024 general election, the NBC News poll shows Biden and Trump tied in a hypothetical contest among registered voters, 46% to 46%.

The two issues where Biden rated the lowest on the WP-ABC poll was also the economy and the second issue was immigration.

Talk is that RFK, Jr might run as a Libertarian in the general election, but it's not certain they'll even nominate him. Cornel West is running as the Green Party candidate. The No Labels Party could run Manchin and Hogan. Those parties aren't on the ballot in every state. And Trump for the Republicans and Biden for Democrats. It's over a year until the 2024 general election and a lot can happen.
