It's the way I do it....clean it up good and wipe it down with CLP. I have a couple chamois that I keep in a jar well saturated with Breakfree CLP and Choji Oil and I have yet to have anything rust unless abused by leaving it get dusty or exposed to the elements.
Choji Oil is the stuff they oil Japanese swords with - basically light mineral oil and a couple drops of clove oil to make it smell good. Started using Choji some years ago as I figured if dudes trusted their $100K Nihonto to it, it was probably pretty safe and effective. with Breakfree added it's The Bomb but frankly I just use the Choji 'cause I'm eccentric.
