Trump sues CNN for 'fake news' -- and demands $475 million in compensation

The lawsuit, which was filed in a federal court in Florida, argues that "beyond simply highlighting any negative information about the Plaintiff and ignoring all positive information about him, CNN has sought to use its massive influence -- purportedly as a “trusted” news source -- to defame the Plaintiff in the minds of its viewers."
The suit goes on to allege that Trump is suing CNN "to vindicate his reputation as a dedicated public servant and to establish CNN’s liability for the harm it has caused to his reputation by the false, defamatory, and inflammatory mischaracterizations of him."

His usual style, if in doubt attack with a lawsuit. I wonder if he is using his favorite judge?

TOS cannot prevail in this case. He was president of the United States, the very definition of “public figure”. Defamation cases against public figures are difficult to win because the standard of proof is much higher than in most private-sector lawsuits. It is assumed by the courts that individuals voluntarily sought attention in pursuit of their position of influence. Therefore along with demonstrating actual harm suffered, they must prove not only that the statements made against them was not only untrue but that publishers made such accusations with actual malice. This is protection of not just free speech but freedom of the press in action, an integral part of a functioning democracy.

So lawsuits like this will likely be thrown out in the preliminary hearings (“Where’s the beef?”). Like most of his lawsuits these days written by shyster lawyers seeking notoriety this is a nothing-burger.

Nah, this is not the kind of case he wins, even with Trump-appointed judges. Very few are as willing as Cannon to go SO outside legislative and judicial law to benefit Trump. Even the SCOTUS doesn't actually give a fuck about Trump (except Thomas)--they have life-time appointments. Their awful decisions have little, if anything, to do with Trump, but rather with their own warped view of what they want the nation to be--Alito is even worse than Scalia was.

The only reason Thomas supports TOS is Ginni Thomas and we can wonder just what she has on Clarence to force that support. Maybe Anita Hill had the answer years ago.

If Trump was head of a publicly traded corporation his board would have fired him long ago. This is all for show like a lot of his lawsuits, it's to stir up his base by going after a "fake news network". CNN is part of Warner Bros Discovery a spin off of AT&T, they have plenty of money.
