VSP: Two killed, one injured in Alburgh shooting
State police plan to provide another update following the completion of autopsies, which are expected to occur Monday, Nov. 29, at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington.

As the investigation continues into Saturday night’s fatal shooting in Alburgh, the Vermont State Police is providing the following additional information.

Based on preliminary information, investigators have learned that the shooting arose from an ongoing dispute between two men over access to a property for hunting. The dispute was reported to have been escalating for about a week and culminated in Saturday night’s shooting, which occurred outside the Cameron Drive home of one of the people involved.

Investigators say the men were killed in an exchange of gunfire late Saturday.

They say an escalating feud over access to hunting land first led to a fistfight between Mohamed and Devin Cameron, 27, of Alburgh, Saturday evening at a fishing access in Alburgh.

Police say after the fight, Devin Cameron and Larry Cameron, who were cousins, went to Larry Cameron’s nearby home on Cameron Drive.

They say Mohamed later showed up at the home with two other men, and Larry Cameron fired multiple shots from a handgun into the air in an effort to prompt the men to leave.

That’s when police say Mohamed brandished a rifle. They say there was a struggle over the gun and Larry Cameron and Mohamed exchanged gunfire.

Mohamed was hit by multiple rounds from the handgun.

Larry Cameron was struck by one rifle round.

Both men were killed.

Devin Cameron, who was not armed, sustained multiple wounds during the gunfight and remains hospitalized in critical condition.

We spoke with Grand Isle State’s Attorney Doug DiSabito earlier in the day before the autopsies were released. He said they hoped the autopsies would shed some light on what happened.

“We’re looking to see if there’s any helpful evidence as to the timeline of events-- who fired the first shot. An autopsy will be helpful, I believe in that,” DiSabito said.

No one has been arrested.

Police are still investigating and hoping Devin Cameron recovers enough to be interviewed.

When the investigation is complete, DiSabito will determine whether to file any charges.
