We could have had Lenin as an intelligence asset...but...

So I'm reading a book with my coffee this morning, and I'm just laughing my ass off. Its a book about the Dulles brothers. So when Alan Dulles was the most junior intelligence officer in Vienna in 1916, he was passed a note that a Russian asset wanted to meet with him, and could only meet with him the following day; which was a Saturday.

But here's the problem. Dulles had a weekend getaway scheduled with a pair of hot Swiss twins. So of course he listens to his dick, and goes away with the twins. (which is pretty legit...I mean, hot twins... That's a once in a lifetime opportunity for epic debauchery).

As it turns out, the person who wanted to meet and become a US intelligence asset was none other than Vladimir Lenin.

Literally his first screw up. Seems he made more, as head of the CIA, including causing the revolt in Iran to protect the oil interest of British Petroleum, after the British government said no. This put the Shah back in power over the legally elected government wanting to nationalize the oil for the people of Iran. You saw where that lead to.

During the '50's both Eisenhower and the CIA were just in love with overthrowing countries. Its a good thing that didn't come back to bite us in the ass.

Lenin was sly and slippery and after the Russian Revolution the next year he wouldn't have been interested in Americans. Allen Dulles was a Wall Street lawyer pulled into the OSS by General Wild Bill Donovan and ran operations out of Switzerland. It's one of the great "What Ifs" of history.

The Brits too used to recruit via the Old Boys network for their intelligence services MI-5 and MI-6. The Cambridge Spies taught them a lesson about the Old Boys.

The Wall Street Bankers and Lawyers wer neck deep in foreign intelligence right along with the US government. What happens overseas effects te ARKit’s here. Remember War is a Racket by Gen. Smedley Butler USMC Ret. They were fighting for Wall Street and United Fruit Company.

Yes, a year before the Russian Revolution in 1917. I doubt that Lenin expected his Bolsheviks to be successful in their coup d'etat against the Kerensky government, but they were and then civil war started.

INikolai Lenin, born Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, leader of the Russian Revolution, would have been the most credible and reliable intelligence asset in American history. He would have had the best interests of his American capitalist running dog handler's owners at heart, and would have served them faithfully and loyally in the suppression of the inevitable Marxist revolution of the proletariat.

:eyeroll:

This is the kind of story that Allan Dulles probably made up to tell at parties in order to bolster his reputation as a ladies man.

Following in that theme, a young activist from French Indo-China named Nguyễn Sinh Cung, tried to meet with Wilson at the 1919 Paris Peace Conference. Wilson snubbed him, the first of many snubs the future Ho Chih Minh received from the United States that could have saved us a WORLD of troubles--and 58,000 service persons dead.

We had a chance again in 1945. We had made friends with Uncle Ho when we had the OSS and military fight the Japanese. Ho Chi Minh really like the Americans. They were happy to see them and wanted our support in an independent Vietnam. But Harry Truman bowed down to the French and gave them money to support them to go back and reclaim French Indochina, Thus pissing off Ho Chi Minh who look elsewhere for support Russia and Communist China which was having its revolution and civil war. Later when the French was losing big time and were on their last legs at Dien Bien Phu they ask the US for help to relieve the embattled French forces. The US Air Force planned a bombing campaign to relieve the French using the B-36 Bombers based at Carswell AFB Fort worth. It was called operation Turkey Buzzard. My dad was involved in the planning and logistics for the operation. It was killed by LBJ the majority leader of the Senate at that time. He made a statement on the floor of the Senate stating " Our boy's will never get involved in a war in southeast Asia."

The Military already had observers in southeast Asia along with the CIA and the rest is history we already know well.
