Sad red state COVID numbers

1
Some heavy Darwinian reality--most unfortunate.
Red states are failing at protecting their citizens from the coronavirus in every measurable outcome. The COVID-19 pandemic hospitalizes and kills residents of MAGA states at twice the rate of states that voted for Joe Biden. Even worse, people who live in states with Republican governors are experiencing a pandemic that is one-and-a-half times worse than states with Democratic governors. Fewer citizens of GOP-led states have been vaccinated, more people catch the virus, more people are hospitalized and more people die.

--snp--

Thankfully, dead people can’t vote: Trump carried nine of the 10 deadliest states for COVID (deaths per day) in the 2020 election. All nine are led by Republican governors (Nevada is the exception).

And
JACKSON, Miss. (WMC) - The Mississippi State Department of Health sent a health alert Friday warning health care providers about a drug used to deworm livestock that some are using to prevent or treat COVID-19.

According to the alert, the Mississippi Poison Control Center has received several calls related to the ingestion of ivermectin meant for livestock, causing illness in COVID-19 patients.

Ivermectin is approved for use in both people and animals, but animal drugs are highly concentrated and can be highly toxic in humans.

The FDA points out ivermectin is not an anti-viral medication so it doesn’t fight any virus, like the coronavirus. It’s prescribed as tablets to people to treat conditions caused by parasitic worms or as a topical ointment for external parasites like head lice and skin conditions like rosacea. The FDA issued a consumer update about ivermectin in March and again in April.

I am disappointed that the biden administration has not found a way to force the republican governor’s to come inline and remove their silly bans on masks and get the remaining people vaccinated. Public safety and limiting the development of more variants demands it. The administration needs to show it can simultaneously handle multiple crises.

Ivermectin now sounds like another version of folks poisoning themselves with aquarium grade chloroquine they got off eBay early on in the pandemic. Stupid can hurt but ignorance can kill ya if you’re also stupid.

Stamping out stupid should be a national priority. On some levels we are a very uneducated country and some seem to take pride in their ignorance. Freedom shouldn’t mean being able to spread stupid. Whatever happened to the idea of a more perfect union. Stupid is not perfect. An informed people is closer.

How exactly do you do that? State's rights and all that PLUS, morons like abbot and deSatan are doing this to appeal to their magaT creepy, pro trump the traitor crowd.
BUT it is beyond me why any governor makes mandatory masking for CHILDREN illegal and subject to PUNISHMENT..as their COVID numbers skyrocket. The magaT pull is strong indeed.

I would expect the executive branch to figure that out not me. It’s an out of control pandemic and the welfare and safety of this nation is in the hands of the executive branch. Figure a way. If one of us had all the answers that person should be in the white house not biden. The central government has means to compel states to do a variety of things they might object to. Find one. States rights have limits.

It's very simple: The WORST ReThug governors are counting on that super-reactionary crackpot neo-fascist voting bloc to win the Presidential nomination in 2024. They don't give a flying fuck about anything else. DeSantis and Abbott are leaders of the largest ReThug states, but Ducey and Noem are following the same playbook.
People get sick, kids get sick, people and kids die, ICUs are overrun, no room for accident, cancer, cardiac victims--they don't give a flying fuck.

It's all about 2024 to them and the fascist, racist idiot bloc.

Stole this--it's them all over:

Suicide is fine. Being a “typhoid Mary” type is not. We have enforced quarantines and such for public health and safety. Endangering others is not okay. I’d be okay with them knocking themselves out, if it didn’t include the rest of us being knocked out as well.

I just left the Nextdoor site which I rarely read. Apparently our school district voted to require mask last night. Post started by anti-masker stating he was going to run for school board next year to "stop the madness" and asking what poster thoughts were on what the board should address. The response from most were beyond stupid, even going off the rails on how schools were teaching 5 year old's to masturbate. I'm surrounded by idiots. I posted the following:
Separate schools at all grade levels in all districts - one masked; the other unmasked. Give a choice to the parents and staff, even if the separate schools not convenient, tough, suck it up.
Wanted to add "then just STFU" - but knew that wouldn't fly. Texas has become a cesspool of ignorant turds.

EDIT: First response "you're supporting segregation" and how the media has mislead us about covid. He got the first part correct, the second is just ignorance. No doubt segregating anti-maskers would help, I'm all for it.

Wino, We have always had the cesspool of ignorant turds. It's just now the Cesspool has overflowed and is about to drown all the rest of us. We have not had a responsible state government since Ann Richards was governor in the mid 1990s. She was the last Democrat governor in this state. It has been going downhill ever since and with the last election that put the Three Stooges in office it has hit almost rock bottom. We have Governor Abbott without Costello that thinks TFG is wonderful, but wants to be just like him as president. Then we have racist and former radio shock jock Dan Patrick as Lt. Gov. and head of Texas Senate, that is still pissed that he didn't have a national radio show like Rush Limpballs and is still making asinine statements. Last but not least we have Felony indicted A.G. Ken "Loser: Paxton that has filed more lawsuits than any other AG and won none. Still waiting for him to go to trial and lose.

No reason to go into the Federal office holder at this time because most of them are just as sorry and the post would be way too long.

No politician is going to mandate that everyone get vaccinated, it's political suicide. The unvaccinated have tons of reasons why they are not getting the jabs and it includes people of all colors. The antivaxxer, anti-masker, freedom/liberty/patriotism and conspiracy crowds have merged over the COVID vaccines, that was predicted months ago. It's just embarrassing that the governors of the 2nd, 3rd and 8th largest states are feeding the freedom frenzy for their 2022 reelection campaigns.

Adults have the freedom to decide and that includes the freedom to remain ignorant about the vaccines and become seriously ill and die. You could say it's a form of suicide, but the state and suicide prevention groups aren't going to intervene. The only thing I can do is protect myself by wearing a mask, physical distancing and staying away from crowds and getting the booster when that time arrives, the rest I can't control.

Not skittish at all.

It really only means that I was born and raised in a Christian Home, educated in a Christian school, a member of the Episcopal Church USA that is still part of the Anglican Communion although among the more liberal chapters of Club Christian. The Creedal part refers to basing much of the faith on the Creeds, in particular the Nicene Creed that predate even any compilation of the New Testament. I also understand that the purpose of those creeds was as much political as theological and created as tools to limit membership and control authority.

These are people who follow the teachings of Christ, a rare breed these days.

Yeah, some most unfortunate Darwinian shit playing out as funds from various agencies are squeezed due to lack of Federal funds down the line. Those in red states who die due to stupidity will still be represented for ten years due to the census. I don't think that will wear well.

With the computer systems we have today, it's a shame we can't keep an accurate census record more often. We have many Californians still moving here to Texas, you should be a very bright blue state in no time. Here some of the Reds are also moving out to places like Idaho but we are still gaining population.

Yet both are gung-ho about getting SCOTUS and the Feds to fully outlaw abortion because they only want "personal choice" for themselves.

Yes, the Census Bureau does good estimates, but to change the 10 year requirement takes a constitutional amendment, dicey if that would get approved by 3/4s of the states.

Trump cast doubts on two things that will end up hurting him and his party, state election systems and the US census. He depressed Republican votes with his fraud claims in a number of states and he depressed responses to the census which affected the number of House seats AZ, TX and FL received. Early estimates had AZ gaining 1 seat, TX 3 seats and FL 2 seats. Good for Democrats but bad for Republicans and the next census isn't until 2030.

I don't see that good for Dems as TX and FL will redistrict with the Repug legislature and try to turn more districts Red. Here in Texas the Blue districts are almost all in large metro areas. Which the dear Legislature will do their damnedest to split up and combine with red districts to prevent having multiple Dem districts. We will have some very weird shape convoluted districts.
