Embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) defended himself against allegations of sex trafficking and a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl with a defiant op-ed in which he declared he was “absolutely not resigning” from Congress.

“Let me first remind everyone that I am a representative in Congress, not a monk, and certainly not a criminal,” Gaetz, a close ally of ex-President Donald Trump, began his column in The Washington Examiner on Monday.

“Since I’m taking my turn under the gun, let me address the allegations against me directly. First, I have never, ever paid for sex. And second, I, as an adult man, have not slept with a 17-year-old,” wrote Gaetz.

The Florida Republican characterized the federal investigation that has reportedly ensnared him as a political attack on “a congressman who loathes the swamp and fights both sides of it on a daily basis.”

“My lifestyle of yesteryear may be different from how I live now, but it was not and is not illegal,” said Gaetz. He added that it “comes as no surprise that my political opponents want to sensationalize and criminalize my prior sex life just as I am getting engaged to the best person I’ve ever known. “

“My personal life is and always has been conducted on my own time and my own dime. Consensual adult relationships are not illegal,” he added.

This was the guy who bitterly fought Florida legislation, believing he should be ALLOWED to use the threat of posting nude photos of the women he had sex with against them! He is a sexual predator and a pedophile.

Oh, and he KNOWS he's a criminal: he BEGGED the TFG regime for a blanket pardon in TFG's final days. And, of course, because he had nothing to gain, and didn't owe him, TFG ignored Gaetz, letting him fall under the bus.

Amid Sex Abuse Allegations, Rep. Gaetz Invited To Speak At Pro-Trump Event At Trump Hotel

Embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) has been invited to speak at a pro-Donald Trump summit this week at a Florida golf resort owned by the former president. Gaetz, who is under investigation for alleged sex trafficking and engaging in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, said he was grateful for the chance to “share my vision” for America at the event.

Gaetz said he would be speaking Friday at the “Save America Summit” at Trump’s Doral resort in Miami.

The event is being organized by Women for America First, which has been described as a “pro-Trump dark money” organization. The group hosted the Trump rally in front of the White House on Jan. 6 that preceded ― and helped ignite ― the deadly U.S. Capitol riot.

Women for America First said Tuesday that it was “honored” to have Gaetz speak at its event.

Gaetz, the group said in a tweet, has “been a fearless leader in D.C.”

“Few members of Congress have been more willing than Matt to stand up & fight on behalf of President Trump & his America First Agenda,” it added.

Gaetz thanked the group “for the invitation to share my vision for our great nation.”

The New York Times reported last week that Gaetz was under investigation by the Justice Department for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old girl and paying for her to travel across state lines.

The congressman has denied the allegations and has refused to resign, insisting in a Monday opinion article that he was “certainly not a criminal.”

“Since I’m taking my turn under the gun, let me address the allegations against me directly. First, I have never, ever paid for sex. And second, I, as an adult man, have not slept with a 17-year-old,” Gaetz wrote in The Washington Examiner.

As HuffPost’s S.V. Dáte reported, Women for America First is charging $500 for “general admission” tickets to its event this week ― an amount that does not include a hotel stay. The group is also offering a “Platinum package” and “Diamond package” for $2,000 and $5,000 each. The Diamond package promises access to VIPs including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.).

The event could rake in “hundreds of thousands of dollars” for Trump’s Doral resort, which has been struggling financially for years, Dáte noted.

At Project Linus we wish to bring awareness to the condition which currently affects millions of Americans: Security Blanket Syndrome. People with SBS go on to lead happy and productive lives with regular treatments and a group support network. Our mission is to remove blanket shame in society and believe that all people have the right to feel safe in their homes.

We do not condone pedophilia and understand that Rep. Matt Gaetz is not part of our organization nor a registered member in good standing. We also have no knowledge of the former president’s work with blankets or pardons but can assure the public that people dealing with SBS generally are quiet and rarely become violent unless made to feel belittled or defensive for their condition.

Trump's defense of Matt Gaetz is a major problem for the GOP

In the days since it's been revealed that Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., is currently under investigation for sex trafficking of a minor, it seemed like most Republicans were throwing him under the bus. As Politico reported, even though Gaetz was among the most loyal and outspoken Donald Trump supporters on Capitol Hill, "neither Trump nor anyone in the ex-president's orbit is rushing to Gaetz's defense." Trump insiders appear to have gone out of their way to humiliate Gaetz further, leaking reports to the New York Times about Gaetz begging Trump for a pre-emptive pardon in Trump's last days in office. Gaetz's Republican colleagues were crawling all over each other to tell embarrassing or damning stories about him, from the time he reportedly showed them nude photos of women on the House floor to his fight against efforts to ban "revenge porn" in Florida. As an analysis from Media Matters shows, Fox News, which used to never get enough of Gaetz, has barely mentioned the congressman in recent days. Even professional troll Jacob Wohl has turned on Gaetz.

But then, like a devil rising up to collect his dues from Faustus, Trump decided to go ahead and personally defend Gaetz. In a statement released on Wednesday, Trump denied that Gaetz had asked him for a pardon, adding: "he has totally denied the accusations against him."

The entire scandal represents the larger conundrum for Republicans, one that isn't going away just because Trump is no longer president. Politicians like Gaetz, and like Trump before him, hold the promise of broadening the GOP base to pick up a lot of voters that more traditional conservative politics, especially the kind peddled by the religious right, weren't appealing to. But while dirtbags like Gaetz and Trump hold a special appeal to previously ungettable voters, their very presence invites scandal.

As I noted in last week's newsletter, Trump and his "grab 'em by the pussy" aesthetic clearly had a secularized appeal to creeps and pigs — with the Proud Boys being a shining example — who find the religious right's approach to politicized sexism too constraining. Trump may have done his time letting evangelical ministers pray over him or holding a Bible like he was afraid it would bite him, but no one was fooled. On the contrary, understanding that Trump didn't really believe all that crap was a big part of the Trump's appeal, which brought him an eye-popping 15 million more voters in 2020 than Mitt Romney got in 2012.

The religious right that was once a backbone of the party's voting base is shrinking by the day, as older religious conservatives die and fail to be replaced by younger people, who are turning away from religion. By appealing to America's trolls and creeps — the people who Hillary Clinton famously, and accurately, described as a "basket of deplorables" — Trump held the promise of expanding the base, converting people who were often otherwise uninterested in electoral politics into Republican voters. And, as unpopular as he was among his colleagues, Gaetz held a similar promise of a GOP that was less dependent on a shrinking religious right by shoring up its appeal with dirtbags.

Until recently, it was reasonable — savvy, even — to imagine Gaetz had a good shot at making himself into the face of the Republican Party post-Trump. Gaetz seemed like just the man to pick up a specific strain of Trump voters, those who were open to a racist, misogynist message, but had no interest in the traditional showy religiosity of the GOP. Gaetz brought a Rush Limbaugh-esque "triggering the liberals" justification to his antics, replacing the traditional feigned piety of Republicans with a trollish delight in being the worst. And it was working for Gaetz, who was a rising star on Fox News, averaging a whopping 87 minutes a month of airtime on the network.

The problem with pandering to dirtbags, it turns out, is that they are, well, dirtbags. The qualities that made Gaetz so appealing as a Fox News figurehead are the qualities that also led to this scandal. Misogyny dressed up as religious conviction is a drag, but when misogyny is just men gleefully asserting their right to treat women however they like without consequence, terms like "sex trafficking," "revenge porn," and "sex with minors" are rarely far behind. And yes, the religious right has those problems, as well, but the trappings of faith make it easier to ditch the men — like Jerry Falwell Jr. — who get caught up in scandal, while still claiming, however falsely, to have the moral high ground.

No doubt many of the more traditional Republicans were excited throwing Gaetz out with the trash. There's a reason the religious right — as smarmy, hypocritcal, and dishonest as they are — survived for so many decades as the backbone of the Republican Party. Claiming to act out of "faith", no matter how much you're lying, puts a moralistic veneer on the deeply immoral beliefs that actually drive conservatives. Gaetz — like Trump — threatens to topple the whole enterprise by exposing how sleazy and opportunistic 21st American conservatism actually is.

Unfortunately for them, by coming out to defend Gaetz, Trump just made life way harder for the religious right.

With Trump out of the picture, there was a fighting chance that evangelical leaders could reclaim the GOP, and go right back to selling themselves as a party of "faith" and "family values," instead of a bunch of power-hungry hypocrites who happily throw in with shamelessly hedonistic unbelievers like Trump clearly is. Getting rid of Gaetz could have been the first step in the restoration of the old power structures of the Republican Party. But Trump is popular with Republican voters and nearly every Republican leader still clearly feels the need to kiss the ring. By defending Gaetz, Trump made it clear that Republicans aren't going to be able to just walk away and pretend this whole appealing-to-dirtbags thing never happened. Instead, he's tying the deplorables around their neck like an albatross and making it clear they can't go forward without them.

Video emerges of Trump and Ron DeSantis meeting man being investigated for human trafficking with Matt Gaetz

On Wednesday, CBS News revealed that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) went to the Bahamas in late 2018 or early 2019 with a marijuana entrepreneur and hand surgeon that ultimately triggered a sex trafficking investigation.

The man, named Jason Pirozzolo, "allegedly paid for the travel expenses, accommodations, and female escorts," the report revealed.

Whether the escorts were hired for sex across state or international lines is part of the investigation by the Justice Department, and it includes both Gaetz and Pirozzolo as part of that probe.

A new development occurred Thursday when an old video was unearthed of then-President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump meeting Pirozzolo as they landed in Orlando in June 2019, months after the now-infamous Bahamas trip. Trump was there to launch his 2020 presidential campaign with a large rally.

He, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Casey DeSantis were the only three guests waiting on the tarmac in Orlando that day. It's unknown who helped Pirozzolo score the unique opportunity to greet the president.

’Matt Gaetz is not feeling very comfortable today': Joel Greenberg attorney

Embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is feeling the heat as his close friend Joel Greenberg's attorney said he client was "likely" to strike a plea deal with federal prosecutors before May 15th.

Following a status hearing before a judge, Greenberg attorney Fritz Scheller spoke to reporters outside the courthouse.

"Does Matt Gaetz have anything to worry about?" a reporter asked.

Scheller repeated the question back to reporters, "And you're asking me to get into the mind of Matt Gaetz?"

""I'm sure Matt Gaetz is not feeling very comfortable today," Scheller said.

Matt Gaetz sent $900 to accused sex trafficker pal — who passed it on to 3 young women

"In two late-night Venmo transactions in May 2018, Rep. Matt Gaetz sent his friend, the accused sex trafficker Joel Greenberg, $900. The next morning, over the course of eight minutes, Greenberg used the same app to send three young women varying sums of money. In total, the transactions amounted to $900," The Daily Beast reported Thursday. "The memo field for the first of Gaetz's transactions to Greenberg was titled 'Test.' In the second, the Florida GOP congressman wrote 'hit up ___.' But instead of a blank, Gaetz wrote a nickname for one of the recipients. (The Daily Beast is not sharing that nickname because the teenager had only turned 18 less than six months before.) When Greenberg then made his Venmo payments to these three young women, he described the money as being for 'Tuition,' 'School,' and 'School.'"

Greenberg has been indicted on 33 counts, including sex trafficking.

"Gaetz and Greenberg are both connected through Venmo to this then-18-year-old woman—who now works in the porn industry, according to a friend of the girl. And on Thursday, Greenberg's attorney and prosecutors indicated during a court hearing that they expect Greenberg to strike a plea deal, likely meaning he plans to cooperate with investigators," The Beast reported. "That could be potentially disastrous for Gaetz, as investigators look into the connections between these two men. And one particularly damning connection is their financial transactions."

Matt Gaetz hired former 'Apprentice' contestant -- and she's threatening to sue journalists

Embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz has hired a former contestant on "The Apprentice" to do crisis damage control as his sex scandals continue to grow.

"A boutique conservative consultancy group working on behalf of Rep. Matt Gaetz is threatening to sue journalists for their coverage of the embattled congressman. The entity, Logan Circle Group, is run by Harlan Hill, a former Democrat who became a top Trump surrogate during the 2016 presidential election," Politico reported Thursday. "The official behind the recent legal threats is Erin Elmore, a colleague of Hill's at the Washington-based consulting firm and a Season 3 contestant on 'The Apprentice.'"

"Elmore, who has a legal degree from Villanova and has active status as an attorney in Pennsylvania, has emailed at least two reporters who have written on Gaetz, threatening them with lawsuits over their coverage of the Florida Republican. Gaetz is reportedly facing a federal probe into a potential violation of federal sex trafficking laws. But Elmore's email took umbrage with reports that the congressman had asked then-President Donald Trump for a pardon and was currently on the outs with the 45th president," Politico explained.

The publication noted an email Elmore sent to one of its reporters.

"We are seeking an immediate print and on-air statement of retraction. Failure to comply with this request may result in litigation," Elmore wrote. "President Trump issued a statement indicating that Congressman Gaetz has never sought a Presidential Pardon. Such a statement would also indicate that President Donald Trump has not distanced himself from Congressman Gaetz."

Politico was not the only publication to receive communication from Elmore, The Daily Beast was also reportedly contacted by her.

"Gaetz has not been charged with a crime, and Gaetz's congressional office declined to comment directly for this story," The Beast reported. "Instead, a representative from an outside public relations firm, the Logan Circle Group, responded with this statement from Gaetz: 'The rumors, gossip and self-serving misstatements of others will be addressed in due course by my legal team.' Logan Circle's Erin Elmore—a pro-Trump pundit and former contestant on The Apprentice—added that a lawyer would be 'closely monitoring your coverage.'"

The Beast added, "Also cc'd on the email was another Logan Circle Group employee: Harlan Hill, who was banned from Fox News after calling now-Vice President Kamala Harris 'an insufferable lying bitch.'"

House Ethics Committee Launches Investigations Into Reps. Matt Gaetz, Tom Reed

The House Committee on Ethics said Friday that it had launched two separate investigations into the sexual misconduct allegations against Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Tom Reed (R-N.Y.).

Gaetz is currently under investigation by the Justice Department for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old girl and paying for her ― and other young women ― to travel across state lines for sex. Federal investigators are reportedly looking into whether Gaetz used any federal campaign money to make these alleged payments.

Gaetz has also been accused of showing photos and videos of nude women while on the House floor and of taking the drug ecstasy.

The Ethics Committee said in a statement that it was “aware of public allegations” that Gaetz may have “engaged in sexual misconduct and/or illicit drug use, shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe, improper gratuity, or impermissible gift, in violation of House Rules, laws, or other standards of conduct.”

The committee said it was also aware of allegations that Reed “may have engaged in sexual misconduct.” Reed has been accused by former lobbyist Nicolette Davis of groping her in 2017.

In a statement last month, Reed apologized for his “unprofessional” behavior and any pain he may have caused Davis.

He added that he would not run for any elected position when his current congressional term expires in 2022. Reed had been considering a run for New York governor.

Gaetz has denied the sexual misconduct allegations leveled against him, insisting in a recent op-ed that he’d never paid for sex or, “as an adult man ... slept with a 17-year-old.”

The New York Times reported last week that Gaetz had sought a blanket, preemptive pardon from former President Donald Trump during the final days of the Trump presidency; it appears that nothing came of those entreaties.

It's a very slow news cycle right now, the "always leaking Trump administration" is history. MSM is bored so they've focused on the Derek Chauvin trial and Matt Gaetz. Biden's administration doesn't leak unless they want it to so it's a frustrating time for journalists especially the TV ones. 1 - He's fucked (let's just get that out of the way)
2 - Barr approved this investigation
3 - Following that approval, he made sure he was never in the same room with Gaetz
4 - Joel Greenberg is working with investigators and his lawyer implied he's working against Gaetz
5 - Republican's aren't exactly lining up to support Gaetz

Next there's Gaetz's actions after this went public. The whole extortion thing just seems absolutely bizarre. I'd give it a 90% chance when this investigation is done, Gaetz himself if behind the whole thing.

Women who say they attended Matt Gaetz parties detail 'drug use, sex and payments'

Two women who attended parties with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) say they were marked by "drug use, sex, and payments," according to a new report from CNN.

One woman who attended the parties tells CNN that she frequently saw Gaetz take pills that she believed to be recreational drugs, and she described the Florida lawmaker as a "frat type of party boy."

Additionally, CNN viewed receipts showing that Gaetz and now-indicted "wingman" Joel Greenberg "used digital payment applications to send hundreds of dollars to at least one woman who attended the parties."

One of the women who received payments tells CNN that some of them were made in exchange for sex, but she would not tell the network the names of the men she was paid to sleep with.

CNN has also learned that federal investigators at the moment are looking into a trip that Gaetz took with several women to the Bahamas and that they "are seeking to determine whether Gaetz was provided travel and women in exchange for political favors as part of their broader probe."

Gaetz has so far completely denied any allegations of wrongdoing and has yet to be charged with a criminal offense.

Indicted Matt Gaetz ally made over 150 Venmo payments to young women — including 17-year-old: report

On Wednesday, a new Daily Beast report revealed that the indicted former tax official tied to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) in the federal sex trafficking investigation, Joel Greenberg, made over 150 Venmo payments to young women, including a 17-year-old — often with crude or racy memo lines.

"Gaetz made only one previously unreported transaction in the newly obtained documents: a payment from the Florida congressman to the former Seminole County tax commissioner for $300 on November 1, 2018, with the love hotel emoji ('🏩') in the memo field," reported Jose Pagliery and Roger Sollenberger. "The Daily Beast was unable to tie that transaction directly to any woman, but confirmed that Greenberg booked one night for that date at The Alfond Inn, a luxury hotel in Winter Park, Florida."

"An examination of Greenberg's Venmo transactions shows dozens of suspicious and curiously titled payments," said the report. "Some were as simple as 'Ass' or a lipstick kiss mark ('💋'). Others were more opaque, such as 'Stuff' and 'Orher stuff' [sic]. According to three people with knowledge of the relationship, Gaetz was among the men who tapped Greenberg to access a large network of young women. Three payments in the reviewed documents — in amounts of $500, $500, and $250 — were designated for 'Ice cream.' Five other payments were for 'Salad,' one of which topped $1,000."

The payment Greenberg made to the 17-year-old was simply designated "Food."

"In the Venmo transactions reviewed by The Daily Beast ... there are at least 16 payments in 2017 totaling nearly $5,000 to a woman who would later go on to date Matt Gaetz," noted the report. "Additionally, Greenberg paid her $1,500 over the course of two days in April 2017 using Cash App. That woman — who came to Washington, D.C. as an intern in January 2018 — has said she dated Gaetz during and after her senior year in college."

This new reporting comes after CNN revealed Gaetz attended secret parties known for "drug use, sex, and payments" and that one woman claimed to have witnessed Gaetz taking recreational drugs. In addition to sex trafficking, federal authorities are reportedly investigating whether any of this came out of campaign funds.

Gaetz continues to deny all allegations.

Might as well be, as he's the son of Don Gaetz, who has been spoiling and fixing things for him his whole life. The most imaginative novel couldn't INVENT a character more outrageous than Matt Gaetz.
"Even if the bee could explain to the fly why pollen is better than shit, the fly could never understand."
