Recognize This Party Platform's Key Points?

1
I didn't.
1. Provide federal assistance to low-income communities;

2. Protect Social Security;

3. Provide asylum for refugees;

4. Extend minimum wage;

5. Improve unemployment benefit system so it covers more people;

6. Strengthen labor laws so workers can more easily join a union;

7. Assure equal pay for equal work regardless of sex.
Pretty damn liberal, even social democrat, isn't it? Even Today, the Democratic party would do well to stick to those 7 points.

But they weren't the Democrats'. This is the summary of the Republicans' party platform in 1956, when Eisenhower was running for re-election! Today's Republicans call those seven "Socialist" and "anti-American"!

BTW, much of these platforms were based on our Cold War positions at the time. Those commie bastards did a lot to force America to "keep up"

It is hard to compare parties pre-1980 and post-1980.

For example, Iraq has been bombed every year for 29 years. Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Trump have used bombs and drones against a country we aren't "at war" with. The parties were almost indistinguishable on many issues. Remember when D & R POTUS candidates both seemed to be almost the same with almost the same positions (law and order, strong defense, etc.)?

It really hit me when I realized that Nixon and Trump weren't impeached for war crimes or criminality (or harassing the press or lying or racism). They were investigated for impeachment because they messed with the DNC (Watergate) or its main candidate (Ukraine).
It is an unfortunate human failing that a full pocketbook often groans more loudly than an empty stomach.
