Hello from Southwest Virginia

#1 Post by Timberwolf89 » Sun Jul 21, 2019 9:26 pm

Hello everyone!

First off I just wanted to say how ecstatic I was to find this group! I was staring to feel like a one man wolfpack. A little about me...

I was raised in a Republican household that loves the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, camping, shooting, all the above. When I moved off to college my political views shifted to a more libertarian viewpoint and while I still consider myself a civil libertarian I do not subscribe to the "privatize everything" mentality. I now consider myself a centrist Democrat who was pretty disappointed with the recent debate and its conversation on guns. Thats why I went looking for a group like this because I knew in my heart of hearts that there are left leaning folks out there who respect the 2nd amendment.

Thank you!

A classic problem with many Repubs, they get education then left the party. Facts have a liberal bias.

Welcome.

IMO, if the dems ran a centrist, pro-2nd candidate, they would win easily. yes, that simple. disavow further gun control. instead, they're going to swerve off to the left in search of ideological purity and then it's a much riskier proposition.

Welcome!
The border between civilization and savagery is porous and patrolled by opportunists. Resist fascism. Vote like your democracy depends on it.

:welcome: from Las Vegas, NV

I am a Virginia Native myself from the Hampton Roads area. But after several years in the Marine Corps, I have lived under a wandering star.

And, "No", you are not all alone - but it may still feel that way at times.

WELCOME Timberwolf89 !

I too was disappointed with the first Dem debates, I hope the second one will be an improvement. Said a lot about the candidates and the moderators.

Obama won your state twice and so do did Bill Clinton so Dems could win it in 2020, yes with the right candidate and issues. Even if they followed the policy of the Democratic Socialists of America (another thread), “...the DSA has no comment on gun controls or the second amendment. Our members represent a diversity of viewpoints on this topic.” Dems live in this fantasy world that any candidate they nominate will automatically win because that person is better than Trump.

Exactly! Just like what happened in PA with Conor Lamb. It can be done! The national Democratic Party needs to realize if they want a majority they’ll need to give their candidates leeway on the gun issue. Especially if they want to win in rural areas. But I’m not convinced they do.

My main carry is a G26. I’ll shoot anything though. I do a lot of small game hunting so most of the time it’s a savage .17 For big game I go with a 30/06.
