Well. For SEO they promise X number of backlinks to a customers website, which in theory, should improve the customers Google rankings over time. They do it 400 times on a single site hoping that we miss one and a link sticks around. Since our website has a long history comparatively, our value as a backlink is higher than newer websites. Once they figure out whatever pattern we're using for spam blocking, they write a script to automate it and we get an influx of asshole fake accounts with random website on it.

Sadly, the companies buying these services have no idea what's going on or how the magic of SEO works, so they buy cheap and shady SEO instead of getting a legit service.

And the random viagra posts are simply for referral cash. They make money each time someone clicks on the link, so instead of creating a website with value, they spam random forums hoping to earn a few bucks. That one makes far less sense. The lengthier ones are likely also for SEO instead, with an article+ backlinks. Since Googles algorithms are designed to look for content rather than just links, so if someone writes a 500 word essay including a link, the theory is that it will do more for your site ranking than just a backlink would.

yeah, i noticed that.
apparently mr rahal actually exists, or at least a digital identity actually exists. the rahal name looks indian (from india) to me, but the picture is pretty much whitebread. klim (milk, backwards) looks dutch to me, so IDK.
i was tempted to send him a nice polite email asking if he knows someone is spamming on his behalf and suggesting that some of us might find that offensive, but couldn't find an actual link.
a lot of these websites are "under construction".
i love a good detective story.
i'm retired. what's your excuse?

Oh, I called the plumbing company, they of course claimed no knowledge of it. I suggested that they talk to their website advertising people, as they are pulling some shady stuff on their behalf. Half tempted to leave bad reviews on Yelp over it.
