Hey, the formula got 45 elected president it must be lucky charms. Why not use it in daily conversation, eh October 19th?

Oh, BTW, appealing to authority doesn't really work with Liberal minded folks. We don't call moderators to sort things out for us in this playground. We all know the rules of polite society and things generally work out because we respect one another in what we post. The mods come in on their own when things get out of sorts but otherwise, no, there are no authority figures here we need to kiss up to.

The gun threads get plenty of traction, but your first stop should always be an intro. We only berate those who clearly display an agenda. Saying something like you really love the constitution, bill of rights and it’s conservative beliefs is a clear tip off and insulting. It implies that there are people who don’t and hints that in order to love the constitution and our country one has to be conservative. That is a sure way to get some tender loving care from senior members here. I suggest, reading our positions first and then crafting an intro. As Eris mentioned, talk guns and show us what you have and so on. Wanting traction and visibility, to what purpose, what’s the rush?

If you’re truly interested in discussing guns with liberals just do so. Continuing your approach is not going to do any good. Liberal and tolerant are not the same thing by the way.

No, that was me. 97-E Interrogator, later re-named Human Intelligence Specialist.
My job was to separate truth from lies and pass it on. They trained me well since I still have a naturally suspicious mind. :problem:

I can also show you interesting things to do with a Coke bottle to make people talk. Theoretically, of course.

Clutch your pearls.
You came here with your Oct 19th gang and with an agenda to take over or at least disrupt this place and when you found out you couldn't bully and bullshit people here you started whining about it and calling for the mods.

You want philosophy? Here's mine:

I am TOTALLY, unapologetically intolerant of anyone who pretends to engage in debate, under false pretenses, and then whines "UNFAIR!" when called out about it.

Oh. My mistake. I guess I should have introduced myself. Wait a minute. That's your mistake because the intro is there. Is it my fault that you didn't read it?

Don't get too discouraged willjr75. I agree that you and most of the others who came in at the same time are being hassled for no good reason. Stick around a while and maybe things will calm down a bit. Some people come here because they are trying to get away from political debates, and I can respect that, but I don't think we need to turn this place into a left wing echo chamber. All I can suggest is perhaps try to limit the political talk to the designated politics subforums, because there's actually a setting to hide those forums for people who don't want to be bothered with politics. Anyone who can see those forums should know to expect to have their views challenged.

You're the one that jumped into koolaid's thread and attacked. You've done it now in multiple places. As far as I can tell you've violated at least a handful of forum rules. koolaidblue's been a decent guy and I look forward to talking with him more. You? Not so much.

How was it, someSoldier? The closest I got to an Abrams was almost getting run over by an 'A' when it was doing winter testing in deep snow in northern Michigan (1981, I think). I was driving towards the Houghton County airport and the snowbanks on either side of the road were about seven feet high. I don't know what startled me more - that the beast appeared in front of me or that it was completely airborne. My time in uniform was wearing blue. 202/1N4 roughly translates to 98C.

I ain't no mod, just an old fart with an interest in guns and classical liberalism. But, being old, I've seen some shit. And we're all seeing shit in Wash, DC--not that there's anything wrong with that. So some of us are tense and trepidatious (may have made up that word...). Trolls are a thing, but not everyone who throws sand is a troll.

I think it best to throw some old words from an old blog entry. It's about the difference between liberty and freedom.
Freedom is untidy; Liberty: less so.

Rather than to establish “freedom,” The US Constitution secures for us and our posterity the “Blessings of Liberty.” I prefer liberty to freedom, and I’ll tell you why.

My liberty to swing my fist in the air stops at the end of someone else’s nose. That is, I must consider “the Other” when I choose to do things. Were I to exercise “freedom”, I could swing my fist with no thought of consequences. Therein lies the actual problem with respect to freedom and liberty.

Liberty requires an understanding that everyone’s judgment differs about what is and is not desirable.

Embracing liberty does not mean allowing The Stupid freely to run rampant. Rather, liberty requires that we understand the existence of The Stupid, and mitigate against its effects upon The Common Wealth. The Stupid blindly pursues freedom whether or not it sullies The Common Wealth.

Liberty is the check on freedom when the exercise of freedom infringes upon the Common Wealth.

Liberty allows us to regulate corporations whose wastes sully the Common Wealth. Liberty allows us to regulate predatory lenders who create nefarious financial instruments. Reducing regulations, for example, increased the freedom for Wall Street, and we still perceive the results nearly ten years later.

Liberty also requires a thicker skin, so as not to feel too offended too soon. Yes: suck it up sometimes. Ain’t no thang, as it were.
I suppose for a mod it's pretty easy to poke a few keys and delete and ban a true troll. That being the case, it's not really necessary to unleash nine pellets of 00 buck through the door right off the bat. Best to engage the person first and allow the mods to discern whether liberty has been violated by freedom.

Carry on.

Tanks are very powerful and very unforgiving. I had a blast though, no pun intended. Once you touch off 120mm round and feel that heavy ass breach pass you in the blink of an eye, its very astounding. Very sobering, you know you are raining destruction down on whatever you are aiming at.

Indeed, having seen numerous AV's do their thing at the Yuma Proving Grounds over the years.

The Abrams is an awesome machine that gives the crew a decided edge in combat.

I personally viewed a Bofors self-propelled 155mm that could run freeway speeds, but we (the US) didn't go for it. Old hat now, but really amazing back in the 80's:

Yeah, buddy - I'll bet you pay attention to that breech!

One of the Army Sgts I served with in Germany was prior Texas guard. Late one swing shift when we were waiting for our mission to land he told us about an exercise that went wrong. Guys were all over the outside of the armor for the drive back to post and someone messed up and fired a live round at a tank. BW was inside but he lost four friends that were on the outside. Rough stuff.

I'm glad you're back in one piece.

:welcome:

Let me squeeze a hello in here: Hi from Las Vegas Nevada. Glad to see you on the forum.

I was in the USMC, so I never actually saw a Tank :-) The only US Tanks I have ever seen were chewing up pavement in Germany doing maneuvers.

Marines have very sensitive hearing (and feelings too - it's true). The loudest thing I heard was an M203 grenade launcher. *The Army kept all the M79s for themselves.

From the above, it sounds like the Army has the same problem as the USMC - 'play too rough and someone will get hurt.'
