Remington importing 870s?
Somebody told me Remington is importing certain 870 models. Specifically the 870 express 6 shot models. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Chinese versions
Arms manufacturer Norinco, of the People's Republic of China, has made unlicensed copies of the Remington 870 as the design is no longer under patent protection. The most common of these designs are the Norinco HP9-1 and M-98, the difference being that the HP9-1 has either a 12.5" or 14" barrel, whereas the M-98 has an 18.5" barrel.[11] In the United States, where most Norinco products are specifically non-importable,[12] this shotgun was imported and sold under the names Norinco Hawk 982 and Interstate Hawk 982.[13]

I'm aware of the norinco copies. I'm talking specifically about Remington-branded 6 shot 870 expresses. Is freedom group farming these out overseas?

All are made in NY state. Individual components therein could be made elsewhere. If they are made in Russia, they are still doing some damn fine work. I've had thousands of shells through my newest one (2014) without an issue.

Yup. I have a 2012 express that has never given me any problems. I was asking because I saw one advertised on a website that listed country of origin as imported. Maybe it was a typo.

I've owned that Chinese copy Tex mentioned at one time. It was a very heavy gun and felt like they recycled tank parts to make their "870". But it certainly was solidly built and tamed 3" shells' recoil somewhat better than the lighter Remingtons; more a gun of war than a gun for hunting. Stocks interchanged and maybe even the barrels.

I know that quite a few manufacturers are importing Turkish made shotguns under the manufacturers name, basically contracting certain models out to Turkish companies. Example being the Winchester SXP, Weatherby also had a Turkish import for a while, remington I believe is still made in the US.

Turkish shotguns are normally pretty good - the wood is generally far above average in grain compared to similar priced guns here.

Remington import Bikal SxS's and OU's a few years back and tagged them a Remington and those POS gun had to go to EAA for service if needed (worst customer service ever)

I own two 870s an Express and Express Magnum, my son affectionately calls them "the twins". The magnum has been giving us problems lately going into battery so my feeling for them has not been as high as it was before.
