Interesting. We were working with an adoption agency that primarily adopted from Latin America, but was a also licensed to adopt in Texas. We thought we would be adopting from South America. Well I was at work 3-11 in the ED when I was told I had a phone call. It was the agency calling they had a newborn baby boy in Austin for adoption if we were interested. I said yes, Looked at my boss and another nurse and told them but we don't have any thing for a new born baby. My boss looked at me and said go home I'll work your shift you are now on maturity leave. He was the Prom night product of a girl and the BMOC football player that left her for a college scholarship to play football.
Here is where the story really gets interested. We lived next door to my parents at the time. They had gone to Austin for a VFW convention and was within 5 miles of the hospital when our son was born. Later they left Austin and drove to Port Lavaca, TX where I had been born. I was a six month premature baby the doctor that delivered me and cared for me was still in practice. They stopped by to see him and was in his office when I got the call about the adoption. When Wife and I were about to leave to go to Austin my parents pulled into their drive way. We said, Hi going to get our son be back later.
As a kid he was a handful. Talent gifted, reading Jurassic Park in kindergarten and my wife microbiology books in first grade. with understanding. In middle school he played the trumpet and after braces the bass horn played for one month and went all district. Finally after many visits with vice principals in middle school due to him being bullied, we pulled him out and home schooled him till he was 16 and started college. Has a degree in organic chemistry and is now a master chef.
I would love to see that children could be adopted more easily. We had used this agency we did because the others would not even talk to us because we weren't of their faith or they were way too expensive.
