OK, so I bought a S&W 617 right before I lost my job and became a consultant again. Timing is everything, amIright?
Anyway, the day I got it, I dropped of to a local gunsmith who used to do trigger jobs for Apex before they bailed on Los Osos. The thing has an INSANE trigger now. I shot about 250 rounds of Golden Bullet and was very impressed. I did have about 6 FTF though. I might increase the hammer drop some.
Here's 10 at 10y...this I believe an NRA smallbore rifle target.
Then I shot the new-to-me 642, using some Magtech 158g LRN. Jesus, it's like having a firecracker go off in your hand. After 50 rounds, I was shaking my hand. I've got to try a new grip on it.
I did manage this insane 3-shot group at 5y.
I'll never shoot a group as good as that. Jesus...I just put the gun away after that.
Re: New gun range report
3Good fun. Most unfortunate about the sting in the hand.

Re: New gun range report
5Yup - unless it' a Colt Police Positive in a 2.5" barrel shooting .32 wadcutters. Then it's as benign as shooting 22LR.
"We have met the enemy and he is us." Pogo.
Re: New gun range report
6Yeah, I think some of the discomfort could be mitigated by a fatter grip.
