Been looking at several online source for a box of 5000 WInchester small pistol primers and everybody is out of stock!
Not the first time.
I did a google question on what’s up with the shortage and and found a thread from 2009 that pretty much blamed it on Pres Obama.
I guess now it’s the pandemic.
And “hoarders”
I just want my brick of 5000!
Is that wrong?

2and the upcoming election with the potential to put dem "gun-grabbers" in the executive and both houses of legislature. it's always the evil dem(on)s, but rep(tile)s are happy to restrict, too.
i've basically given up on bulk lake city pull bullets. i have enough of everything for now, will try to restock after november, when it might get worse. i have small rifle primers, large rifle primers, large pistol primers. no small pistol, sorry, can't help you.

Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
3I’m good for now too.
When I break into my last brick of 5000 I start looking for more.
That’s where I’m at on small pistol primers.

Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
4I'm pretty much done reloading for pistol this year so I haven't noticed the shortage. Natchez has CCI small pistol primers on sale right now.
Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
5Wow. I did a search on AmmoSeek, and they have none listed, anywhere.
Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
6It's pretty bad right now. I have managed to find enough components to keep me up to snuff but can;t find any of my 6.5 (,264) 147 gr. Hornady ELD-M's anywhere. It's gonna be tight...hopefully this is not our "New Normal".

They are "on sale" but out of stock....

Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
7Found some small rifle primers on strips to support my coming venture into learning to reload for 6.5 Grendel. Can't find any pistol primers.
Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
8For those who didn't go through the last shortage- check local shops, they will occasionally still get in shipments. Pick a few major online retailers and check them early in the morning, IIRC Cabela's updates stock at 6am central time, and in shortages, it goes fast. Same with ammo. I think it used to be Thursdays. Unless you REALLY need it, don't overpay.

9I’ll bite:
“So how small are your pistols?”

Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
13Wikipedia so take with a grain of salt: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centerfir ... imer_sizes
Essentially the pistol primers have thinner casings, presumably the pistol striker/hammer would have issues with the thicker metal while the thinner metal in the pistol primers would have issues with the higher pressure of the rifle rounds

Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
14so, would it be safe to use rifle primers in pistol cartridges? we have a member here who's out of small pistol primers and i have spare small rifle primers. i'm thinking i should give him a hundred or so to try out if it's not a safety hazard? wouldn't want to be responsible for putting his eye out.

Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
15I did some quick googling and it seems like it would work as long as the pistols have modern, full strength springs, I'd definitely watch for light strikes.
Re: Wish I could find some small pistol primers
16thanks i'll offer some.
