They read it, send it to committee if they desire, read it two more times and amend if they feel so compelled. If the house disagrees with their changes it may require a conference committee to reconcile. They have until March 5th and I believe 2 more days if conference is necessary. Then gov has until April 6 to sign.

Good info.

Assault weapons ban passes in Virginia House of Delegates
House Bill 961 prohibits any person from importing, selling, transferring, manufacturing, purchasing, possessing, or transporting an assault firearm. It also includes restricting certain magazine sizes.

The legislation would make a violation a Class 6 felony.

The vote Tuesday was 51-48. Not all Democrats supported the legislation.
Looks like three Democrats voted against the bill, and one did not vote. One supported the UBC bill, the compulsory lost/stolen reporting bill, and the storage requirement bill, while the other three supported the glut of remaining bills Democrats have sponsored excluding HB961.

I wonder if Virginia will end up setting up a reward program for informing on people who don't surrender their firearms or accessories to the state, similar to what Muriel Bowser has in D.C.
https://mpdc.dc.gov/page/firearm-tip-reward-program
Your tip is completely anonymous — and you will be eligible for a reward of up to $2,500. Call (202) 727-9099 if you know someone who has a gun or you know where illegal guns are being hidden in your community. You’ll be doing the right thing and helping to take another gun off the street.

GOP DELEGATE REPORTED $44K FROM DEMOCRATS, THEN VOTED FOR GUN CONTROL
He reported an in-kind donation from the Democratic Party of Virginia for $44,000 while campaigning for re-election.
In particular, Davis has voted with Democrats to expand gun confiscation orders and establish a state-recognized day intended to demonize gun owners.
However, Davis hasn’t just voted for Democrat-based gun control bills; he’s even carried some of his own.

Imagine if those crybaby imbeciles had been reaching out to gain support rather than making death threats. Nobody to blame for this passing but the bill’s stupid ass opponents.
This isn't really about gun rights for all Virginians. Speaking civilly to a potential ally would imply that some Democrats are human beings with original thoughts. That wouldn't fit the "Bloomberg zombie" or "socialists are evil" narrative.

Ban on assault weapon sales dies in Va. Senate committee
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/vi ... story.html
A Virginia Senate committee killed a bill on Monday that would have banned the sale of assault-style weapons and possession of high-capacity magazines, handing gun rights activists a rare win in a Capitol that Democrats won last year on the promise of sweeping gun control.

The House has passed all eight of Northam's bills. But four Democrats — Sens. R. Creigh Deeds (Bath), John S. Edwards (Roanoke), Chap Petersen (Fairfax) and Scott A. Surovell (Fairfax) — sided with Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee to reject the assault weapons bill for the year. On a 10-to-5 vote, the committee sent the measure to the state's Crime Commission for study.

Since joining this group I make it a point to let my fellow liberals (and Democrats) know that we own firearms too & while we support the end of gun violence we do not support bans. That it is a multifaceted issue with no one solution including weapons ban. I’m glad I found this group as there are reasonable, thoughtful people here as opposed to the idiots I find on FB pages related to firearm accessories (holsters, etc). Thanks all!

HB961- Now dead in the Senate. Dodge a bullet on magazine restrictions. Nice to see the good guys winning against the racist governor's agenda. Arbitrary magazine restrictions are dumb. Where are these laws really going to be enforced anyway? In the mountainous regions of western VA? Do you think Sheriff Joe-Bob is going over to his cousin's house to take his AR-15 anyway? Nope its going to be enforced on minorities in urban areas. The history of Gun Control in the South is about disarming minorities, and this is a lesson that people either do not remember or has been lost in history.

Funny how a big problem with Democratic Party laws is often racist Republicans.

"Politically active gun people should resist the temptation to listen to NRA Republican endorsements against these four. Tying all hope of gun rights to the Republicans would be ruinous in the future." Spot on Marlene and that other thing you said that escapes me right now...

The Senators that had the fortitude to cross the so called line to do the right thing on HB961 should be commended. I think a note of support from fellow Democrats, Liberals and Progressives (and everyone else even if you're not a Virginian) would mean a lot to the 4 who stepped up for the right of self protection. You know they've got to be taking a lot of shit right now...I think I posted the their official phone numbers and emails last week, but if you can't find it here it's worth taking the time to look them up: Sens. R. Creigh Deeds (Bath), John S. Edwards (Roanoke), Chap Petersen (Fairfax) and Scott A. Surovell (Fairfax)
I'm in Fairfax County, but unfortunately Sen. Scott Surovell and Sen. Chap Peterson are not my Senator, I have some rote bozo named Howell.
