I love the history and legal knowledge crammed in there. A few quotes always resonate with me, the most significant of which would be:

Also excellent is LFI Handgun Safety (item HS) It's a great range safety intro, but also gives the evolution of the rules they use. Things like...ways of clearing a 1911 can lead to a crippled hand when clearing more modern semi-autos.

One of the 'side benefits' of the StressFIRE pistol material is a thorough evaluation of the various stances, including their origins, strengths and weaknesses, and when they're useful or detrimental to surviving a fight.

The StressFIRE series has three parts - pistol, shotgun, and carbine. All of the pieces are available on Ayoob's site. A couple of pieces are sometimes available on Amazon.

Hello! New person here.

I like the 1982 Senate Report of the Subcommittee on the Constitution. It is only moderately lengthy, but it is efficient. Not flowery, no spin. Just some facts ma'am. I also like Vandercoy's History. Well cited.

I just finished Winkler's "The Battle over the Right to Bear Arms in America," and found it enlightening and a great read! Now I am onto Living With Guns. This list was a great idea, and it's refreshing to absorb information on the issue that doesn't come from the far right. I hope that I can add my own suggestions in the future.

Love the idea of a 2A reading list, and recommendations offered. Wondering though if the info would be more easily accessible via the website. Forum is decent way to communicate with members, but doesn’t seem easiest to access/find info - IMO. Then again, could just be the old fart in me struggling to find my way around.

I was raised with a good historical knowledge of the Civil Rights Movement. Many older members of my church had been freedom riders, members of SNCC, SCLC, CORE, etc. My understanding was that Bayard Rustin had leaned on Martin Luther King, Jr., who had then studied Gandhi, and that the movement was overwhelmingly spiritually nonviolent until things fell apart in the late '60's and the Black Panther Party represented a very different ethos until it was destroyed by COINTELPRO. However, my thinking has been expanded by the books

This Nonviolent Stuff'll Get You Killed: How Guns Made the Civil Rights Movement Possible by Charles E. Cobb Jr. and

Negroes and the Gun: The Black Tradition of Arms by Nicholas Johnson.

I remain committed to nonviolence in social movements (don't bring arms to the march!), echoing Fannie Lou Hamer, who said, "Baby, you just gotta love 'em. Hating just makes you sick and weak." However, I also resonate with what Hamer followed that up with: "I keep a shotgun in every corner of my bedroom and the first cracker even look like he wants to throw some dynamite on my porch won't write his mama again."

So, I'd recommend both books.

So happy to have found this thread. Took some notes and marked some books on Amazon for consideration. In doing so and while exploring the possibility of taking a class that uses her work, I came across a sociologist out of Arizona named Jennifer Carlson. Apparently, she has a book about to release in May of this year titled, “Merchants of the Right: Gun sellers and the crisis of American Democracy. It’s up for preorder now. Thought maybe some of you all would be interested. Looks amazing. She has other works too. I’ll read them and offer commentary.
To learn, you must be willing to challenge what you currently hold to be true. :crazy:
