Anti-gun violence group launches campaign to end filibuster
Brady, an anti-gun violence group founded by former Reagan aide Jim Brady and his wife Sarah, debuted two new ads first obtained by The Hill as part of its "#FilibusterIsKillingUs" campaign that calls on the Senate to eliminate the 60-vote threshold required for most legislation to pass.

The organization plans to spend $40,000 on its initial round of digital ads, with more outreach likely moving forward.

"In the past four Congresses, the filibuster has stopped life-saving and common-sense legislation such as expanded and strengthened background checks from passing the Senate, creating a chilling effect on such legislation even as these policies attract overwhelming support from the American public, including majorities of both parties," the organization said in a statement.

Agree. And common sense is not necessarily so and often doesn’t address the underlying reasons for violence. Houston has had a large increase in violence in the last two years. It is mostly clumped into “gun violence” by the media, but the complex reasons for the increase is not examined. A combination of factors from Covid, unemployment, youth dropping out of school, drugs and other factors are fueling the increase. Yet, the media chooses to blanket cover such events and will undoubtedly be used as evidence for the need to “do something”. Dems taking this as a reason for gun bans and new regulations will be handing republicans the material they need to pummel the dems in the next election. This is not the issue I want them to fight. I want healthcare, employment, and equality issues handled and not restrictions on civil rights. Positive reinforcement is a better training tool for cats and people.

Agree, they're more like ambulance chasers reporting the "breaking news" without context and background data. The filibuster keeps Democrats from banning firearms and Republicans from banning abortion.
