So, y'all might want to interrogate the details of the shit you're eating up with a spoon: HB67 allows state workers to strike without being fired. Last year, a version was introduced and some people threw a tantrum in the name of "safety" because police weren't exempted (meaning that they too were allowed to strike). This year, Mr Carter introduced a version with an exclusion for public safety officers (which means they will be fired for collectively refusing to work, as is ALREADY THE LAW). Morons are freaking out because they think the part of the bill that leaves current law for public safety officers intact is new law.

The bill literally has nothing to do with guns. It's a bill to allow state employees the labor organizing rights of other workers. It's a bill introduced by a socialist whose primary legislative focus of on labor issues.

Too bad the intellectual giants freaking out about this have had no grasp of issues other than fearmongering about gun rights. If they had been politically engaged on some other level, people might have had a choice to dethrone the racist, homophobic, anti-worker shitheels previously in charge of the state, without voting in the anti-gun douchebags. If you maintain ignorance and tolerate the likes of Ken Cuccinelli to keep gun rights, then you get what you deserve when it goes tits up.

I don't like to participate in insulting people. People have different opinions and experiences, good. I listen.

I'm just a guy. When I go to church tomorrow I will probably talk to good christian people who will try to convince me why it is good for the government to violate the rights of people to jam christian ideas down the throat of people who have different opinions. I will explain why I disagree. They will tell me I don't understand.
The week after that I will probably go to the unitarian church where they will explain to me it is good for the government to violate the rights of people and jam unconstitutional laws down the throats of people who want to be left alone. I will explain why I disagree. They will tell me people like me are stupid.
In the united states when one group gets control over another group it is BAD. I have no current reason to believe that is going to change. So I support maximum freedom when it comes to the constitution.

I absolutely, positively don't support the government disarming people. They should stop.

I think the flurry of bills and flurry of disinformation from various sides is designed to confuse, frankr. Stay vigilant and keep your powder dry. Remember that the GOP wants power and will use any lies or half-truth to get it back.

First County to Form Militia in Response to New Virginia Gun Laws
https://healthandmoneynews.wordpress.co ... 2/08/1249/
TAZEWELL, Va. — Tazewell County joined the ranks of “Second Amendment Sanctuary” counties on Tuesday — and took it one step further.

Before a crowd of more than 200, the Board of Supervisors unanimously passed two resolutions during their meeting on Tuesday night. The Second Amendment Sanctuary resolution and a resolution promoting the order of militia within Tazewell County both passed to loud cheers from a crowd that overflowed the 189-seat board room.

Board Chairman Travis Hackworth announced at the beginning of the meeting that both resolutions would be unanimously passed. The militia resolution was approved on a poll earlier this month, but county residents via Facebook and other means kept asking for the sanctuary resolution as well.

Hackworth said board members started getting messages from state legislators following the Nov. 5 election, which saw Democrats take control of both the House of Delegates and the state Senate for the first time in 25 years.

He said elected officials expressed concern that legislation might pass that would chip away at Second Amendment rights. Southern District Supervisor Mike Hymes contacted Interim County Attorney Chase Collins and had him get a copy of the sanctuary county legislation passed in Carroll County, one of the first counties in the state to pass a resolution protecting gun rights, and similar resolutions from other localities.
Here we go.

Virginia National Guard responds to Gov. Ralph Northam’s comments on Second Amendment sanctuaries
We understand and respect the passion people feel for the U.S. Constitution and 2nd Amendment rights. We will not speculate about the possible use of the Virginia National Guard. I encourage everyone to be patient while we allow our elected officials to work through the legislative process.

We have not received any requests from the Governor, or anyone on his staff, about serving in a law enforcement role related to any proposed legislation.

I expect our Soldiers, Airmen and members of the Virginia Defense Force to be professional and respectful in their discussions about this subject. As private citizens, our personnel are free to express their opinions to their elected officials, but they should not engage in any political activity while in a uniformed status.

Second amendment sanctuaries aside, creating a militia will create enough fear with anti-2A voters to keep that state blue. Stupid, transparent GOP power play.

They are far from the only ones but the other counties are using the Tazwell document as a blueprint, while also trying to avoid the all the negative connections to the word "militia". Some county
leaders are looking to the Minutemen, others are just keeping quiet about the name. The paperwork is moving forward in counties other than Tazewell. Lots of people are ready for guidance and structure, and a formal chain of command.

Minutemen? Militias? And those voters who freak out at open carry will be scared witless by these militias. They will volunteer, donate, and run for office. They remember Charlottesville and the GOP response to mass shootings there.

Hillary carried Virginia by 5% in 2016. Since then, the GOP has been wiped out. The notion that gun rights (the major voting issue of 2019 for the winning Dems) will suddenly sweep GOP back into office is unsupported by facts.

Virginia needs to compromise or they will become another Massachusetts/California gun control state.

No clue.

I haven't lived in VA, but I worked there many times. The fear and loathing created by the years of "triggering the libs" and "liberal tears" is real there. Charlottesville took a toll. Normally conservative wives and moms are sick of the GOP bullying and this "Minuteman stuff" isn't working for the GOP or the pro-2A crowd. The GOP got wiped out over gun issues. Rubbing salt in the wounds is not going over well. Don't believe me? Look at the polls or look at the election results. When they adopt Cali laws and guns & mags have to be turned in, maybe a lesson will be learned?

wikipedia has an article. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_St ... onal_Guard
"All members of the National Guard of the United States are also members of the militia of the United States as defined by 10 U.S.C. § 246. National Guard units are under the dual control of the state and the federal government."
there's the Dick Act of 1903, national defense act of 1916, national guard mobilization act of 1933,,,. i'm not convinced that the national guard as we know it bears much resemblance to militia as the founders understood it.

This thing is going to be really tough to stuff back in the bottle. Hopefully, the VA Dems blink and don't pass the bills. It will be unthinkable if they do pass them.

SCOTUS has a lot of blame here, having been essentially silent on 2A's scope since Heller. If we had clear case law (and there's only one real interpretation after Heller) across jurisdictions, this could be (hopefully) avoided. But the Court of Appeals has made such a fucking mess of it....

I really think SCOTUS won't vote on abortion or guns in meaningful way before Nov 2020. Who knows what will eventually happen with them, though.

If the Dems in Virginia have any clue whatsoever they will drop the anti 2A Legislation for now and show the People of Virginia what The Democrats can do to make life better for their constituents. Just...leave the gun bullshit alone for a year and fix the abundance of other problems to gain a little credibility before you start dismantling the Constitution.

But they won't.

Yep, that would be the smart thing to do. I have no support for violating the constitution whether it be clever tactically or not. But in this situation the democrats are being used by people who want to disarm the american population, and those people don't care about anything except ruling the people. They are some form of american dedicator/nobility/oligarch/whatever and the democrats are working hard to help.
I don't see much difference when non-christians quietly support laws that violate the rights of gay people because the people passing those laws in addition to being on a leash by radical christian preachers, also are republicans. It's completely plausible for people to say "I want christians to be left alone, and I want gay people left alone for the same constitutional reason even though I'm not christian or gay". Whatever. It's not where we are.
But this time, the authoritarians are violating the constitution of everybody, including US combat vets. It's a clear violation of the constitution, it's exactly why we have a 2nd amendment, (a little ironic). The vast majority of counties are in open rebellion against the state government, because it is what the people demand. And they are not going to stop.
If the authroitarians disarm the american population we will be under the rule of evil dictators. Our country is NOT going to end up like one of the nice countries. It's truly irrational to even hope for it.

Politicians don't give a rat's ass about their constituents any more, if they ever did. In their hubris they assume a moral high ground and do what they think is right or what keeps them in their position. Every time I write a letter to my reps I have got a very nice form letter back essentially saying, hey thanks for taking the time to write, sorry but we're doing it this way so fuck off. It's disheartening.
Never smile too big, the gods may mistake it for hubris.
Yes, I haz a moose. :D

I think some politicians want to represent voters, but only hear from certain groups. Once in office, many are only listening to donors so they can stay in office. Some are worse than others, and some are doing their best.

The beat goes on...

"The following six localities became sanctuaries tonight, making the total 101!:

Franklin County - Unanimous, 400+ in middle of the work day
Mathews County - Unanimous, 500+ in middle of the work day
Prince Edward County - 4 to 3, 550+, voted down a weaker resolution and passed a stronger one!
Stafford County - Unanimous, 3,000+
Town of Vinton - 4 to 1, 60+
York County - 4 to 1, 800+

500+ gun owners showed up in Clarke County to urge the Board of Supervisors to put a 2A Sanctuary resolution on their agenda. The Board of Supervisors is considering having a special meeting to do so.

It still seems like the old GOP playbook. They are scaring up votes to take back what they lost. I see this crap here in GA all the time. They are liars and power-hungry thieves. They lost the state for a reason - voters don't want the GOP.

Universal background checks red flag laws? Many states have tougher gun laws. I doubt anything else would happen there.

GOP... what GOP? This is Democrats snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. We worked long and hard to bring change and now it will erased by this single issue backlash.
VCDL will endorse Democrats, I've seen it... if Gov Northam continues the current registration/prohibition/confiscation agenda I'm certain VCDL will go the way of the NRA.

As somebody who is very active in the current gun sanctuary move in Virginia, how does anybody think the GOP is anywhere to be seen? This is pure grassroots and I personally think the GOP is somehow in bed with the democrats to either help violate the constitution or just stay out of the way. But now that each little facebook group has thousands of members and we are forming organization to protect our rights, now we are starting to hear from the republicans who have been ignoring us.
The virginia sanctuary movement is strictly a grassroots movement, and we are all suspicious of the republican candidates who are now willing to meet with us. We have only 1 focus. Protect the constitution. Our government, strictly the democrats this time, are going to violate the constitutional rights of the Virginia population. The constitution is clear.

It's possible that ubc and red flags would have been tolerated. But that's not what is being proposed. The Dems just can't seem to help themselves by introducing assault weapon bans, registration, mag limits and confiscation. That is why VA is saying fuck you.

Let's not misrepresent the Dems "common sense" approach.
