Down on Abaco, Bahamas, wild pigs are hunted with shotguns. A friend took 4 hogs last weekend there. Pretty sure he used buck shot. Hand guns are banned, and rifles are VERY expensive to own--a $300 annual registration fee. Shot guns have a $150 fee/gun.

One of the instructors in my wife's college division hunts with a bow and arrows and gets the hog. He does carry a backup gun but has never had to use it.

I would prefer a rifle, myself. 7.62x54R or 7.62x39 is what I have. Of course, that's just me. Lots of good calibers for that.

Some states might frown on certain hunting methods. I don't know where you are located.
