.350 Legend

1
I just got an email from Ruger listing their new goodies in Winchester's new .350 Legend cartridge - looking it up , it appears to be a rimless .357 Maximum. Case length is 0.10" longer than the Max and the case has a slight taper (.3900" base to .3792" neck), but bullet weights & speeds (from rifle-length barrels) appear to be the same... Could be rather interesting on an AR platform!

Of course, I just sent the barrel from my Henry .357 Magnum single-shot out to be rechambered to .357 Maximum...

One nice potential side-effect for .357 Maximum shooters / reloaders would be increased availability of light (< 180 gr.) .357 bullets capable of dealing with rifle velocities; ones designed to be effective at pistol speeds generally don't do too well at 2000+ fps. (The Nosler 180 gr. XTP is about the best choice now for the Max.)

Here they are:

Ruger American Ranch bolt-action (standard) -

Ruger American Ranch bolt-action (compact) -

Ruger AR-552 MPR -

Winchester also has a couple in their XPR bolt-action series, and CMMG has an AR platform rifle using the .350 as well.

I've always been a fan of straight walled rifle cases. Being a big fan of the bolt action I would prefer a rimmed case. I think the 350 and the 450 were developed with the AR platform in mind and give

people who like that style of rifle very good options for a hunting rifle. For defense the 350 could even be touted as a 351 self loader improved.
