I scheduled a second dose for 4-8-2021 through the CVS online network at a CVS about five miles from my house.

Great news. Hope 2nd doesn't take as long to obtain as first or may have to start over again - That's what I fear - get this far and have to restart would truly suck!!

Yesterday I took my neighbor to get her first shot. Hip replacement, she doesn't drive anymore. This place was different from the one I went to. This one was in the town of Chico at the Fair Grounds, so lots of already existing perfect infrastructure. Well done. There were no National Guard because there are two nursing schools here--Chico and Butte--so there are plenty of students who can give intramuscular shots. Very efficient. Lots of stations, each with two or three 20 year old nursing students, taking records, getting info, translating (Spanish, Hmong, Chinese), giving shots. Good thing they only let clients in. I had to wait for Mary outside where she emerged from a special side door so little old ladies with canes get escorted to the car pick up spot. Very well organized. Everyone had masks. Everyone was distancing and so on. Security standing around with nothing to do. Perfect. We saw our friend Jose brings Mary's firewood who is in our same age cohort.

We are a small population, large area, county, with the populations in a few concentrated areas. Our results most likely will not match those of larger population centers. YMMV.

Perfect, that's good news. And 2 weeks from your second dose you'll be fully vaccinated.

That was very neighborly of you, nice to see neighbors helping neighbors. My second dose was at a college with an RN and LVN programs, but there were few vaccinating stations maybe 6 total in a sports center. Counties will have it down to a science by the time the boosters come around.

Pfizer experience report.

I had heard that fatigue was one of the side effects but totally surprised to find that by four in the afternoon I was totally exhausted and ready to head to bed. Fed the kitties and by 7pm was sound asleep.

Woke up this morning and the injection site is now sore and very sensitive. Felt nothing there yesterday.

One side effect I did not expect though. When I got on the scales I found I had lost ten pounds overnight.

So to treat the exhaustion I tried sleep. For the arm pain I took some Tylenol. And to address the sudden weight loss I put new batteries in the scale.

Damn. The last worked.

Lost weight? Damn! I shoulda got the Pfizer instead of the Moderna! I could use losing 10#!
Actually, after the 2nd Moderna my wife was exhausted that afternoon, aching joints, and went to bed. Fine the next morning. Me? Hit me hard the next day, but by the morning after I was fine. Not significant injection site pain, less than a tetanus booster.

Got my 17 year old daughter an appointment (she works in food service, so is eligible) for next week. Super happy about that! Us middle aged parents will just have to wait our turn, but it makes me feel better knowing my kid can start participating in life a bit more and should be ok for college next fall. This shit's been rough on her demographic (like every other demographic).

:clap2: Yes, 2020 was a shitty year for high school students especially seniors. I have a young relative who experienced the same, senior year and she expected to go away to college and she's home doing it online. I keep telling her mom that she's safer, she can accumulate a lot of community college credits which are cheaper and to spend the money on the last two years when things open up again. The only thing to list on her resume is her bachelor's degree.

Yeah, I'm relieved at least she'll be vaccinated. I was also relieved she was laid off from her first food service job (pushing burgers and shakes) last fall and sat out the worst of the winter peak at home. She got another job at the local coffee shop about a month ago in the bakery doing cleanup but there is a big vent hood, employer provided K95s, double mask policy and usually only one other person in the room--so much better situation. Working is so important for kids, especially service jobs. And she's got a new to her Accord (traded in the Leaf because she legit needs more than 80 miles of range starting this summer). And she's graduating in June. So, good "normal" things going on in her life, finally.

Yes congrats sika to you and your wife! Two weeks from today you both will be fully vaccinated according to the CDC.. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were field tested before the new variants, but they do provide some protection. Boosters are someplace ahead for all of us.

Sadly no weight loss for me when I got the first Pfizer. I got fatigue from the 1st dose, but not enough to send me to bed and I had an over 80 mile drive home from where I got dose #1. About 4 hours later I got the pain at the injection site and mild chills. Later I noticed redness at the vaccination site and that was it. Even less side effects with the 2nd dose.

Yup. Wearing masks sends a message of mutual respect IMHO. I’ve got both shots in me now but will be wearing masks in public for some time to come. At least until it becomes unfashionable. Then I can claim to be an iconoclast again.

I still can’t believe that at the beginning of last year before things got real bad (before the mask mandate in L.A.), I was openly criticized for being an “Asian guy wearing a mask,” —by an African American woman no less! My how the world has changed in just a year.

I must admit to being a LITTLE less paranoid since my wife and I are 5 weeks past our 2nd Moderna shot. I don't glove up to get the mail, just use hand sanitizer. I don't always use an N95 mask when I might interact with people, especially if it's only a few seconds. But I do ALWAYS mask when dealing with people, and usually wear gloves.

Got my shot last Friday. I was finally eligible and started registering again to the various state-approved clinics and pharmacies. I got no calls from facilities around the Michiana area despite having registered last month to one of them. Thankfully Kroger has a good computer system in place that allows people to register and schedule at the same time, and I found an available slot 30 minutes away in Goshen.

Here comes the interesting part. When I showed up most of the people getting the shot were minorities. I estimate less than a quarter were white. Goshen used to be a sundown town, and even today is still a place dominated by white conservatives, like most rural areas of the state. Their minority population is considerably smaller than South Bend. The fact that I could immediately find a vaccine appointment there means most of the local white folks aren’t interested in getting it.

It’s all fine and dandy to me. If trumpers don’t want the vaccine, I’m more than happy to take it. They refuse to mask up and get vaccinated, so we’ll see Darwin effect in force.
Glad that federal government is boring again.

it's self-selection of the fittest. darwin approves.
Can’t say I’m sorry if they self select out. I’m not happy about their actions until all those that want to be vaccinated are. After that they can go to whatever oblivion is the preferred after death destination.
